The Carson camp claimed Cruz's team spread false rumors at caucus sites that Carson had dropped out.

Ben Carson was incensed as the results of Monday night's Iowa caucuses rolled in, accusing the winner of spreading falsehoods about him at caucus sites.

The original tweet from the CNN guy said that CArson would not be campaigning for the next primaries.

The lie was put out there by CNN around 5pm when Rubio’s people started saying they would do better than anybody expected. I believe it was a very calculated lie for that express purpose. If you look at my posts today, at http://www.freerepublic.com/tag/by:butterdezillion/index?brevity=full;tab=comments you’ll see some reasons why I think that.

Did the Cruz campaign network know that you were going to speak on his behalf at the caucus? Did they have your email address?

Yes and yes.

If so, and if this stuff was coordinated by Cruz, you would have been contacted.... Are you on the Cruz campaign's email list? If so, could you look at the screenshot in the article at http://www.vocativ.com/news/276724/ted-cruz-is-a-scam-artist/ and see if you received those emails, that Jennings Brown claims he received?

Yes, I am on their list and I do receive a lot of email from tedcruz.org. Part of that is because I checked the box for a number of interest groups (2nd Amendment, Pro-Life, etc.).

Anyway, after Steve King Tweeted the "news" at 5:20 PM CST, I received two email messages from the campaign (the headers prove they're authentic)...

Again, I am very thankful I didn't see any of this prior to speaking.

So the Cruz people reported to their network what CNN was reporting.

It would be nice to know exactly when CNN corrected their reports. Carson’s advisor tweeted at 7:03 that the report was not true, and then at 7:11 that Carson was going to FL for a change of clothes, leaving early to beat out the snowstorm.

We need a coordinated timeline of who said what and when.

I’ve never been to a caucus. When did the speakers for each candidate start speaking?

Did you receive the emails that Jennings Brown had in his “screenshot”?

The original tweet from the CNN guy said that CArson would not be campaigning for the next primaries.

Well, not exactly:

It merely says rather than heading [directly] to NH or SC [as others were doing], Carson would be heading home for a couple days of R&R.

But, King took "won't go to" to mean "skipping":

Then, King believed he'd stumbled upon an opportunity. So, he seized it (then, the Cruz campaign sent the emails to their supporters):

(See it all at https://twitter.com/SteveKingIA/status/694329606174683136)

Personally, I don't see anything nefarious in Moore's tweet. It appears to me, as dungeonmaster put it, there was a "heat of battle" aspect to this for King. I have to think he ran with it as soon as he saw it, only an hour and a half before caucus time.

Just now, Rush is starting to talk about it, beginning with Carson's accusations against the Cruz campaign.

Thanks for the exact tweet. I’ve been to so many places today that I can’t find where I’ve been, and don’t know how to get directly to the Twitter pages.

The tweet didn’t say “directly”. It says Carson won’t go to NH and SC. At http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3391860/posts?page=85#85 there are more CNN posts. One of them uses the word “directly” but the other 2 sure seem to be saying that Carson would not be campaigning.

I’m glad that Cruz apologized. If they received the clarification directly from Carson they should have informed people as soon as they knew it. Then again, so should have CNN. When did CNN correct their reports, relative to when they got Carson’s clarification? And when did CNN apologize?

IIRC, this was reported on MSNBC.

And CNN. Fox is the one that reported the rumor was not true and Carson was just going home "to get a fresh set of clothes." (and that he had left early to beat the blizzard.)

This just in: I now realize Twitter had me in the wrong time zone. So, the Twitter timestamps in my earlier posts were two hours off. That means the Cruz campaign emails preceded the Steve King tweets...

So the Cruz people reported to their network what CNN was reporting.

Well, no. The first Cruz email said, "Carson Likely to Drop Out" and he'd make "a big announcement next week." The second said Carson would "stop campaigning." CNN didn't say any of that.

Carson's advisor tweeted at 7:03 that the report was not true

His tweet appears to have happened around 9 minutes after the Cruz campaign first broke the "news" via email. Unfortunately, the campaign and Steve King kept right on going. Maybe they don't follow Jason Osborne? I don't know. It's a mess.

We need a coordinated timeline of who said what and when.

This is what I have so far.

I think that pretty much tells what happened. I'm still trying to process everything.

Still, we're missing the why and I'm thinking (hoping) it was Steve King and Spence Rogers going off half-cocked in the heat of battle. (And kudos to Mr. King who has not deleted his now-embarrassing tweets, as many do.) Meanwhile, people are outraged at what appears to be "dirty tricks" by Cruz. And I can't say as I blame them. Unfortunately, perception IS reality. The truth of what and why take a back seat to how it all looks. And that's why now, the Carson campaign and others are all too happy to use this AGAINST Cruz.

I've never been to a caucus. When did the speakers for each candidate start speaking?

After the invocation, the Pledge of Allegiance, some announcements and passing the "Lincoln bag" around the room (suggested $5 donations to the county GOP) I think the speakers started around 7:20.

Although I doubt that leaves much opportunity for the Dirty TricksTM to have an effect, I can't rule it out.

I just received a response from the Cruz campaign to my earlier email about this. I'll post what I can, soon.

Although there's nothing here that CNN hasn't already reported, since I posted a copy of my email to the Cruz campaign, here's the response I received... And here's the statement he forwarded from Senator Cruz, which CNN and others have reported: Okay, I'll go ahead and make a donation. But it won't be the one I had in mind before all this **** hit the fan. Let's see seven consecutive days without another debacle.

What evidence is there of Carson denying these claims

It's denied in CNN's own story. Carson explicitly warns reporters not to "take anything from it." Carson then denied it 2 more times afterwards. His wife even had to take the stage to deny a Ted Cruz guy's claim that Carson was dropping out.

Wait a minute. This twitter stuff is so hard to figure out. Carson’s advisor tweeted at 7:03 and 7:11pm. So are you saying those were at 5:03 and 7:03?

Who is Jason Osborne?

CNN said that Carson was not going to NH and SC. What is that supposed to mean?

How does a person know what time zone tweets are?

When did CNN correct their report? Surely the Carson team would have first contacted CNN, wouldn’t they have? When and how did Cruz’s team get the correction from Carson? When was CNN’s first retraction?

Cruz apologized which means he took responsibility for dirty tricks on Carson. After the fact its easy to apologize.

Funny Cruz who is the bestest Christian in the race is the only GOP candidate accused of dirty tricks and shaming letters. Go figure.

Hard to say without seeing the tweets myself. Which of Carson's advisers are you talking about? What's the Twitter handle?

Who is Jason Osborne?

On Twitter, @Jmrhosborne calls himself "Senior Communications Strategist, Dr. Ben Carson for President 2016"; since he's the one I saw retweeted by @RealBenCarson, he's the Carson adviser I thought you meant.

CNN said that Carson was not going to NH and SC. What is that supposed to mean?

I can only guess the intent was "[Unlike the others,] Carson won't go [(directly)] to NH/SC, but instead will head home to Florida for some R&R." I'm also guessing it's common knowledge among press wonks that all the candidates go directly from Iowa to NH or SC. Maybe that's who Mr. Moody had in mind with his tweet. But I'm only guessing.
