Iowa sometimes makes campaigns -- and sometimes it breaks them.
There are five GOP presidential contenders that could be put on political death watch as result of what happens in the Iowa caucuses Monday night. Here's a rundown of which campaigns could end, ranked from most to least likely.
1.) Rick Santorum -- Unless something miraculous occurs, the 2012 winner of the Iowa caucuses will be ending his campaign shortly after Monday night's results come in.
2.) Mike Huckabee -- Like Santorum, the former Arkansas governor is a past winner of the Iowa caucuses, and like Santorum, he is polling at 2 percent in the Des Moines Register poll.
3.) Carly Fiorina -- The former CEO of Hewlett Packard is barely registering in the polls in Iowa, despite spending more days in the state than any candidate currently in the race other than Huckabee and Santorum. So it's not like she hasn't tried to do well in Iowa.
4.) Rand Paul -- The Kentucky senator has every reason to reconsider his continued presence in the race if he fails to show a real sign of life in Iowa since he has a Senate re-election campaign to run. If Paul doesn't make the top five in Iowa, that would be a bad blow for him.
5.) Ben Carson -- The famed neurosurgeon says the only way he won't compete in the New Hampshire primary is "if I die," so the odds are Carson won't be dropping out after Iowa. And he isn't polling terribly in the state with 10 percent in the recent Des Moines Register poll, placing him in fourth place.

I believe in the conventional wisdom that says that there are 3 tickets out of Iowa. Everyone who finishes below third place is effectively out of the race. Whether they actually drop out or not is another story, but I expect Trump, Cruz and Rubio to be the only viable candidates standing after tonight. FOX has been frantically pushing Rubio all weekend. Nonstop.
Rand will easily win his Senate seat back with a wider margin than the 1st time.
The big question is, where will the votes for the also-rans go?
Yep by March 15 this should be all over. Even the hardest headed candidates should of gotten the message by then.
What’s the question?
Iowa GOP caucus votes determine the vote of Iowa’s national convention delegates. Usually 65-75% of caucus votes go to a candidate that doesn’t ‘win’. Somehow, people just buck up and vote for somebody else in the general election. That’s almost always their party’s candidate.
Carson stays in and Paul might surprise.
I think you’re right.
In my opinion Cruz is neither worthy or eligible.
Jeb should be #1!
Rubio is rising. Trump and Cruz dropping.
“But I think Fiorina should stay, because sheâs very confident of her brand, very conservative, and is an excellent speaker.”
I dislike that woman on a personal level. I’ve really got the impression that she’s trying to prove that she’s a ‘tough as a man’ with all of the military talk. (Hubs is a soldier and he listened to one of her screeds. All he could do was shake his head. He said that about half of it made sense)
When she adamantly stated that she’d be willing to start a shooting war with Russia over freaking Syria, I realized that we were dealing with a crazy person.
I like Rand Paul even though he’s not my choice for President. The rest can go home anytime.
Sure wish we could see Jeb! and Rubio on the drop-out list. Kasich and Cristie would be icing on the cake, but I think they will stick around until at least New Hampshire.
Yeah! I heard about that!
Hope she doesn’t do to Commerce what she did to HP. We have a far smaller nest egg thanks to her.
I hope you meant first to go!
I totally agree. That was a class act - the three of them. I hope Trump keeps that in mind.
I agree. The Face is always on her game in the debates and interviews. She doesn’t take any crap and is quick to defend her position. I would not be disappointed if Trump picked her as his VP? It sure would cause havoc with the dems. :-)
Yup. She and Trump undoubtably are of the same mind set in cutting waste and bloat. She needs to be included on this four year project.
Yup. That mailer thingy was disgusting. I liked Cruz, but he turned out to be a slimey snake like Rubio. Cruz and stick with being a lawyer somewhere for all I care.
