Report: Russia suspects Turkish nationalists behind Egypt plane crash

A Russian newspaper has claimed that Russian intelligence believes Turkish nationalists might be behind a plane crash in Egypt that killed 224 Russian citizens in late October of last year.
A Russian airliner carrying 224 passengers crashed in a mountainous area of Egypt's Sinai Peninsula on Oct. 31 shortly after losing radar contact near cruising altitude, killing all aboard.
The Airbus A321, operated by Russian airline Kogalymavia under the brand name Metrojet, was flying from the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh to St. Petersburg when it went down in the central Sinai area soon after daybreak.
In a statement a militant group affiliated to the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in the Sinai province claimed responsibility for the incident, saying it had planted a bomb onboard. But Moscow disputed that.
Basing its report on remarks by an official from the Russian Federal Security Agency (FSB), the Kommersant daily said the youth branch of Turkey's Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) might have links to the crash incident.
According to the report, the FSB believes the Grey Wolf group, a militant nationalist organization from Turkey that operates in many countries, might have a connection to the plane incident.
The official and the daily, however, did not provide any further details about the possible connection.
British officials said they believe that a bomb explosion most likely caused the Russian plane to crash, an explanation denied by the Russian authorities.
Russia halted its flights to Egypt for security reasons for a period of time.
Relations between Turkey and Russia deteriorated after Turkish air forces downed a Russian jet in late November.
Russian media is awash with reports bashing Turkey, at times running stories with poor credibility.
I see roasted Turkey on the Russian menu in the near future.

I think we’d have a full-scale revolt in the military if that happened.

Unfortunately, if Russia attacks we are required to as part of NATO.

Ukraine is one thing, but I wouldn’t shed a tear over Russia invading Turkey.
It's not just the Ukraine. It's all of their former Soviet states that are or will be threatened. Russia has been planning their comeback ever since Reagan humiliated them in the 80s. Putin's aim is to restore the Russian empire, and then-some if you include positions in the strategic, resource-rich middle east. Russia has also been stepping up their arms transfers to hostile leftist regimes throughout Latin America. That plus staging annual joint war games with the ChiComs in obvious preparation for war with us and our NATO allies.
Perhaps in the same way as the Grey Wolf group was behind the attempt on the life of Pope John Paul II ?

The files of the old East German secret service contain documents confirming that the Soviet Union ordered the May 13, 1981 attempt on the life of Pope John Paul II, Italian newspapers are reporting.
Two newspapers, Corriere della Sera and il Giornale , are reporting that files from the Stasi, the East German spy agency, confirm the suspicions long held by Vatican officials. Documents in newly opened files show that the KGB, the Soviet spy agency, ordered the assassination attempt, which was carried out by the Bulgarian secret service.
Dimitar Tzonev, a spokesman for the Bulgarian government, said that officials in Sofia are ready to hand over their secret-service archives to the Italian commission charged with investigating the assassination attempt, which was carried out by Mehmet Ali Agca. An Italian parliamentary commission is also carrying out an investigation of KGB recruitment in Italy.
Corriere della Sera reports that the Soviet service gave the order to assassinate John Paul II, and Bulgarian agents recruited Agca for the effort. That report confirms a theory that was advanced by the Pope himself, in his book, Memory and Identity; the Pope wrote that he was convinced Agca was not acting on his own initiative, "but someone else planned and commanded it." Almost immediately after the attack-- in which Pope John Paul was shot and seriously wounded after his weekly public audience in St. Peter's Square-- Vatican officials quietly advanced the theory that the Soviet Union had authorized the assassination attempt. Italian investigators soon found evidence of ties between Agca and Bulgarian spy officers. But to date there has been no conclusive proof of Soviet involvement.
Mehmet Ali Agca, who served 19 years of a life sentence in Italian prisons, was handed over to prison officials in his native Turkey in June 2000. He is now serving a prison term there for a murder committed before the attack on John Paul II.
