Cruz hits The Donald on 'TrumpCare'
Politico ^ | February 1, 2016 | Dan Diamond with Joanne Kenen

CRUZ HITS TRUMP ON HEALTH CARE - AND HE'S KIND OF RIGHT - Locked in a close battle in Iowa, Ted Cruz is turning to health care in an attempt to separate himself from rival Donald Trump. A brutal ad airing in Iowa links "HillaryCare" and "ObamaCare" with "TrumpCare" - and uses Trump's own words against him.

"Everybody's got to be covered, this is an un-Republican thing for me to say," the ad quotes Trump saying on 60 Minutes last fall. "[And] the government's gonna pay for it."

Cruz pushed this message further on several Sunday shows. "A vote for Donald Trump is a vote for ObamaCare," Cruz claimed on Meet The Press. "Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders have the identical position on health care. Which is they want to put the government in charge of you and your doctor. Now my views are polar opposites."

- TrumpCare remains vaguely defined. Trump called Cruz a "total liar" and declared, "I am so against Obamacare." But the thing is, Trump has repeatedly reiterated his commitment to some form of universal coverage - just as Cruz suggests. However, we still don't know any specifics of a Trump health plan, or how he'd pay for it.

Pressed again on Sunday, he still refused to offer details. "We'll work something out," Trump said on ABC's This Week. "Nobody knows health care better than Donald Trump."

I am pretty sure he knows a thing or two about buying health care.

I would bet Trump knows nothing about it. The people he hires to handle HR and benefits do, but Trump doesn't.

Cruz was talking about securing the border and fences and walls while Trump was on the phone with Bill Clinton asking his opinion on running.
Cruz was proposing bills in the Senate to curb immigration from Muslim countries on the eve of the Paris attacks, before Trump.
Your “me2ted” is incorrect.

If we heard the details of his plan we would reject it. More hope and change...

Cruz should be talking about his own plan for healthcare instead of squawking about Trump.

No wonder his wheels are spinning in Iowa...

“Cruz’s plan as I understand it is to let people die in the streets. Correct?”

http://www.cruz.senate.gov/?p=press_release&id=2251

WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, today introduced the Health Care Choice Act, which would remove Obamacare’s costly insurance mandates and allow residents in one state the option to purchase a health insurance plan of their choice in any other state. The bill is cosponsored by Sens. John Barrasso (R-WY), Mike Crapo (R-ID), Marco Rubio (R-FL), and David Vitter (R-LA). Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) has introduced companion legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives, H.R. 543.

“Every last word of Obamacare must be repealed,” said Sen. Cruz. “And while we continue that fight, we must also send bill after bill to the President’s desk to stop its harmful effects. The Health Care Choice Act will reduce costs, force insurers to compete for business and empower consumers to choose a health plan that meets their needs.

“The Administration has done absolutely nothing to prepare for an upcoming Supreme Court decision that could leave millions of Americans unable to afford insurance thanks to this failed law. Republicans must offer the American people alternatives that lower costs and break the status quo that favors big government and big health care business over hardworking Americans. The Health Care Choice Act is one step in that direction.

“This bill is a true market-based reform that will make health insurance more personal and affordable, giving consumers the freedom to select plans that fit their needs, anywhere from Alaska to Texas to Vermont.”

Congressman Blackburn added: “Government-run health care has been foisted on the American public. Obamacare has promised a lot to millions of people - with no ability to deliver affordable medical care. That broken promise will be challenged in the Supreme Court on Wednesday. If the Supreme Court rules in favor of the Administration, these millions of people will be stuck with unaffordable health insurance and no guarantee of actual medical care. Sen. Cruz has offered help to these folks. I applaud his effort and I am pleased to see my legislation, H.R. 543, the Health Care Choice Act was included in this bill.”

The Health Care Choice Act repeals Title I of Obamacare, which includes the law’s most egregious insurance mandates that have caused premiums and out-of-pocket expenses to skyrocket while degrading the quality of Americans’ health care choices. The act also amends the Public Health Service Act to provide that insurance policies approved and sold in one state (designated the “primary state”) may be allowed to be sold in any other state (i.e. “secondary state”) but only if the health plan and insurer comply with certain basic requirements of the secondary state. Some of these requirements include:

Paying (nondiscriminatory) premium taxes; providing copies of the plan of operation or a feasibility study; written notice of any change in its designation of its primary state and a quarterly financial statement.
Consumer protections such as complying with the secondary state’s fraud and abuse and delinquency requirements.

"We'll work something out," Trump said on ABC's This Week. "Nobody knows health care better than Donald Trump."

What does that even mean?

----------------

Trump has business dealings in several states. His business has to deal with health care costs separately in each state with multiple insurance companies to deal with.

Has Cruz or Rubio ever have to make book on payroll as a business owner?

“Nobody knows health care better than Donald Trump.”

I think he meant unlike Ted Cruz Trump has actually runs a business and had to provide health care for his employees.

Is that you, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz?

We need to elect him to find out what he stands for.

Cruz should be talking about his own plan for healthcare instead of squawking about Trump.

Why? Why should any of the candidates be talking about healthcare plans? As Obamacare has shown there is nothing the government can do with the healthcare industry as it now exists in this country that won't make things worse. Repeal Obamacare and that's it.

” we will work something out”

Brilliant!!!

And the cult choir nods their head in agreement and shouts amen!

This will be a great Gael, because the Donald says so.

Trump doesn't have a health care plan as yet, but has said for some time now that he would like the people to be able to shop around and across state borders...if it's cheaper in Arizona and you live in Florida, you could purchase Arizona insurance than in Florida.....this is what I do with Auto insurance....it's completion to keep the price down...

That has been a standard conservative cry for a very long time. Trump has merely co-opted an already accepted position held by conservatives who have been in the trenches fighting.

You said...
“What makes it even more inane is the line that directly preceded it. If Trump really knew the health care issue as well as he claims to, his proposal would have a bit more depth than “We’ll work something out.” “

Good catch. He contradicts himself in two sentences back to back

If we heard the details of his plan we'd be amazed that he actually had details to his plan. Trump promises without stopping to think how he will deliver.

So how does Cruz's plan help destitute people afford health insurance?

Under the current law signed by Reagan - hospitals can't turn away people from the emergency room and we pay the cost of unpaid bills and fir dysfunctional ERs.

As others have said, Trump has HR professionals who deal with the purchase of health care in multiple states.
