Ted Cruz Sent “Voter Shaming Letter” To Iowa Professor of Political Science…
The Conservative Treehouse ^ | 1.31.2015 | Sundance

Posted on 01/31/2016 2:20:58 PM PST by Aria

(Via New Yorker) […] In Iowa, although voter registration information is free and available to the public, voter history is not. That information is maintained by the secretary of state, which licenses it to campaigns, super PACs, polling firms, and any other entity that might want it. So was the Cruz campaign accurately portraying the voter histories of Iowans? Or did it simply make up the numbers?

It seems to have made them up. Dave Peterson, who happens to be a political scientist at Iowa State University and is well-acquainted with the research on “social pressure” turnout techniques, received a mailer last week. The Cruz campaign pegged his voting percentage at fifty-five per cent, which seems to be the most common score that the campaign gives out. (All of the neighbors listed on Peterson’s mailer also received a score of fifty-five per cent.)

I was wondering if there were any other examples of this "Voter Violation" than the one we keep seeing over and over again. I did a search and was able to come up with a different one (which had slightly better scores) but it doesn't seem that too many of these have been posted to the web. I wonder how widespread this actually was.

Hey, I think you broke the main part of this story on FR some hours ago, when you posted the New Yorker article on that other thread.

Leadership in action!

A bigger point is Cruz has presented himself as a different type of
candidate. All clean and pure as the driven Iowa snow.

Cruz is no different than the rest of them.

This mailer insults the intelligence of Iowa voters.

They can't find grandmother to take care of kids, why they are dragging them?

Yeah. Looks like they might be tiring of being props.

Oh, I agree with you on that point. I just thought Rubio's response was pretty subdued.

Now we know why.

I was wondering why all the scores were 55 F. Seemed odd.

From a New Yorker article:

Donna Holstein, who was listed on one of them, was upset to learn that she had been given a failing grade and that her neighbors might be told whether she participates in the caucus. She told me that she has voted consistently but that she can’t this time because of a disability.

“I’m crippled, so I can’t go to the caucus,” Holstein said. She was not happy about being shamed in front of her neighbors. “That’s what you call a bully,” she said about Cruz’s tactics. “I wish he would quit.”

I cant understand why Cruz would do this so close to the IOWA Caucus.

I cant understand why Cruz didnt take care of the Birther Issue before he started his Quest.

Only Stupid people fall for this political flyer crap and Trump has that Vote locked up.

That’s what I was thinking. These would be tossed in the burn barrel on the way back to the house with the rest of that stuff.

Even if I did read it, it certainly wouldn’t affect my vote

How many election cycles would there have to have been to come up with 55% participation?

Smart FReepers, anyone?

Yes, a good point. His ambition is overriding his judgement.

Another person asked why he didn’t take care of his birther issue before he ran. I think he looked at Obama and figured it was worth a shot...knowing that he’d be going around his principles. That’s why his former professor called him a hypocrite.

“It was arrogant to think it wouldn’t offend people.”

More than arrogance, I think being completely removed from how ordinary people, think, act and react is the more likely explanation, and in a way, I think such emotional isolation and cluelessness is far worse than simple arrogance, especially for someone who thinks they are capable of leading the free world.
