Trump Avoids the Immigration Flip-Flopping Bloodbath
nationalreview.com ^ | January 28 | JIM GERAGHTY

Posted on 01/28/2016 9:55:59 PM PST by Helicondelta

In the middle of tonight's debate, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Jeb Bush and Rand Paul spent about ten minutes trading accusations of inconsistency on immigration reform. It felt like the last ten minutes of The Departed, where almost every major character suffered a grievous injury.

Yes, but to be fair, as I understand what I was told, Cruz really did try to get the citizenship (i.e. new rat voters) squashed. They could be legal but not citizens.

Neertheless...I am still for Trump.

Honestly, I don't understand what he's saying. It's not clear to me.

That's the plan. He's speaking lawyerese.

Q. Why does Philly have all the lawyers and New Jersey has all the toxic waste dumps?

A. Because New Jersey got to pick first.

It will never be "fair and balanced" or "conservative" again.

I think this shows Trump speaking at the 4th grade level is a good idea!

Cruz should say, “I wanted to amend the bill so that none of the folks allowed to stay under the guest worker permits could be full citizens and vote for Democrats.”

Basically, nobody but Trump has the balls to say, “BUILD A WALL!”

This whole Trump mess might prompt a Night of the Long Knives where the sons ax Ailes and take full control of FOX.

Were the rumors of some extracurricular activities between Kelly and the son or sons? Thought I’d heard that before.

It appears Trump avoided a minefield tonight. Smarter than the average bear.

It's flabbergasting to me that a man as smart as Cruz obviously is couldn't see that his best move was to refuse to be a part of the Fox debate!

He should have issued a statement that even though he and Trump were competitors he was very angry that Fox was setting an unfair trap for Trump.

He would have been great at Trump's Veterans rally doing a kiss-and-make-up routine in front of the massive crowd!

They both could have said that regardless of who came in first in Iowa that they were moving forward as friends.... could have been a yuuuge night for Cruz!

Cruz saw Trump being there as a chance to make his case without Trump taking all the attention.

Honestly there are great traits from all our candidates, but we don’t quite have them combined into ONE candidate.

Where many take issue with Cruz is his denial of fighting for legalization when he clearly was. Plenty of direct proof of it. He now claims it was all part of the poison pill Jedi mind trick. I don’t buy it, but even if you do, the way he tells the story sounds like were it not for him, it would have passed. Well it did pass the senate, easily. And the house version was literally hours from passing, before they dropped it. PBS Frontline did a very informative report on the subject, it’s available online.

You are exactly right because the wall stops the problem at it’s source. And simple enforcement of existing laws, such as fines for employers hiring illegals, would also do a lot.
I had a construction business - we always got I-9s to make sure we wouldn’t be in trouble for hiring illegals.

Why did Obama vote to kill immigration reform? That was an odd thing I read tonight.

I think Cruz was ‘for it until he was against it.’ He was for guest worker status - non citizen. But now he’s chasing Trump and trying to rewrite history.

Jennifer Jacobs ✔ @JenniferJJacobs
Cruz walked up to moderators during one of last breaks, didn’t seem happy, Iowans in room say. After, came off stage to talk to Steve King.

“Cruz was definitely rattled tonight. I think he spent all his time preparing for Trump and had nothing when Trump announced he wasn’t going to attend.”

Rope a dope!

Fox also had a bunch of zingers and videos ready to attack Trump. You could tell the (occasionally hot) air had been taken out of the room.

Cruz Flails at Trumpless Debate
With Donald Trump skipping the debate to consort with Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum (because he cares so very much about veterans), Ted Cruz had a golden opportunity to make a strong closing pitch...

It was actually very interesting watching Santorum and Huckabee at Trump’s event. Almost surreal.

Actually, it was the usual BS from FOX engaging in debate rigging, but it wasn't that big of a deal.

The candidates were able to get more of their policies out this time.

What do you think the debates in the general election will be like? Not to mention all the MSM attacks, distortions, and BS?
