Ted Cruz’s ‘Flat Out Lie’ on Immigration
The Daily Beast ^ | 1/28/2016 | PATRICIA MURPHY

Posted on 01/28/2016 5:46:37 PM PST by BlackFemaleArmyColonel

The Texas senator insists he's never favored a path to legalization for undocumented immigrants, but many of his old colleagues say that's not true.

For Latino Republicans who have known Ted Cruz over the last 15 years, the candidate stumping across the country on an anti-immigration platform is not the rising talent they once worked with on the George W. Bush campaign, in the Bush administration, and then as Texas Solicitor General.

The Ted Cruz of those years was a whip-smart and audaciously ambitious lawyer who lent his considerable intellectual heft to the policies many Latino Republicans cared most about, including immigration reform. But during a CNN debate in December, as Cruz and Sen. Marco Rubio clashed over Cruz's past positions on offering legal status to undocumented immigrants, Cruz said definitively, "I've never supported legalization, I do not intend to support it."

Weeks later, Cruz doubled down, explaining to Fox News' Bret Baier that he tried to amend to the Senate's "Gang of Eight" comprehensive immigration reform bill not to pass it, but to doom it to defeat. "Bret, you've been around Washington long enough, you know how to defeat bad legislation."

And with that, Cruz's bridge back to his former colleagues in Latino Republican circles began to burn. "It's just a flat out lie. Period," said Robert De Posada. "There's just no truth behind it."

You are a perfect example why Trump speaks at a 4th grade level.

Simple but what he says sounds smart to you.

What is it with nit wits that think rich NE liberals that live the furthest from the border and are the most isolated from the effects of illegals are always the ones that know the most about it and know how to fix it?

If Trump spoke for the middle class he wouldn’t support Kelo.

Trump is such an isolated idiot living in a rich kids fantasy world that he doesn’t know the ethanol subsidy is driving the price of corn, the staple food south of our border, so high people can’t afford to eat so they come north.

Trump’s solution, increase ethanol subsidies and increase the price of corn.

From article:

The facts, according to De Posada and several Republicans who worked with Cruz in Washington and Texas, are that in Cruz’s past work for Bush and later as a board member of the Washington-based Hispanic Alliance for Prosperity Institute, Cruz helped craft policies to allow undocumented immigrants to stay in the country and pursue legal status.

None of those efforts included granting automatic amnesty to undocumented workers, but it is clear in the minds of his former colleagues that finding a way to offer immigrants a way to remain in the United States and gain legal status was central to the work Cruz did.

This article says explicitly that there was no “lie” from Cruz for supporting amnesty.

Facts are stubborn things.

Where are the facts that says Cruz actually supported amnesty?

This article is a hit piece.

Quit parroting the Cruz shill, Levin ... at least try and form your own opinion and arguments . You resort to 4th grade insults , very unbecoming ... you tried though , but you lost nonetheless

“That doesn’t mean the Army thinks soldiers are stupid, does it?”

No it means they know some of the people reading the manuals are ignorant above 8th grade level.

Stupid and ignorant are two different things.

Does conceding your point, Trump doesn’t consider his supporters stupid just ignorant above a 4th grade level, make you feel better about yourself.

Nah, it’s not a lie.

Canadians use the metric system. Things just appear lesser.

No because as I recall it was not a 4th grade level. I recall Trump’s speech being rated at a 6th grade level and the language used by the network moderators who made fun of him for it at that debate was rated at a 5th grade level using the same rating system. The point is that effective speakers tend to speak so everybody in thier audience understands them. Not everybody, especially recent high school grads, functions at anywhere near a12th grade level. I know that as fact from my time in the Army. Do you think those people should all be ignored?

I’m 60 years old.

When I hear a full grown man say “nobody like you” that’s forth grade level. Get over it, I’m not going to use dumbed down standards to make Trump look like a 6th grader just to make you happy.

Do I think someone that speaks at a 4th grade level should be ignored?

Most definitely I think they should be ignored when they want to be president.

The rest of the world is going to laugh at him why shouldn’t I.

What does it say that by all accounts, Trump bested the Canadian “Debate master” in every debate while speaking at a 4th grade level? Maybe next time he will crank it up to 7th grade and really smoke him.

Correct. Cruz was trying to expose that Democrats would never pass this amendment because they really wanted full-on citizenship so illegals could vote. At that time, it wasn’t as out in the open that Dems wanted full amnesty. By the Dems not passing his amendment to simply remove citizenship from the table, he proved what their scheme was.

It means Trump will say whatever people want to hear on any given day.

Why do you think you Trump supporters have to say don’t judge him on his past even if his past is only 2 weeks ago.

We’ve got idiots here that thought it would be great if Trump was a dictator or even Emperor and went around congress to undo what the democrats and Obama had done then just a few weeks later thought it was a great idea that Trump would be making deals with the very same democrats that screwed it up so bad they thought we needed a dictator to undo it.

Scary part is people like you will lie to themselves and say you never saw any comments like that.

You sound bitter. That is too bad. I generally do not lie to myself. I simply will not vote for someone I think is unqualified for the office which leaves me with Jeb, Rubio, Paul or Trump. I choose Trump out of that bunch. I like Cruz for anything I believe he is qualified for, which is not the Prsdency.

Of course anyone that dare question Trump’s background just has to be doing it because they are bitter.

Funny thing that’s the same thing that was said about Obama and B Clinton.

Character doesn’t matter right?

If Cruz was being disingenuous about the “poison pill”, in other words if he was lying so as to trick people, he deserves an ACADEMY AWARD.

You mean sending illegals home then allowing to come right back through an expedited process?
