Gun retailers report a surge in the sale of gun silencers ahead of a new round of regulations aimed creating roadblocks for popular ways of purchasing the gun accessories. WSJ's Ashby Jones discusses on Lunch Break with Tanya Rivero.

For normal factory loads, that is correct. But custom and very lethal loads can be hand loaded that are as quiet as a BB gun.
You can already buy “silent” 22lr ammo. It is actually quieter than a BB gun, no suppressor needed when fired from a rifle.
Just another example of erosion of the 2nd Amendment. The silencer technology should be on every gun. Why do we have to put up with possible hearing damage today when there are silencers? It’s because the crazies view silencers like they view ‘assault’ rifles and they are determined to keep eroding our Second Amendment rights?
I think the kids are using in-line water filters for under the sink filtering these days.
CCI Mini Caps are quieter than a .177 air rifle, this is true.
As a kid I went to a hilltop & fired my .22 rifle straight up into the air. It went `pewww...’, very quiet with nothing to create a supersonic echo.
Silencers/suppressors are going to come into their own when the Hijrah invasion reaches these shores.
Also keep in mind you can run pistols wet to lower the decibel rating further, something I have not tried yet.

Decibels are a measure of sound energy, not sound itself. Since dB is logarithmic every 10 dB decreases the energy of the sound by a factor of 10, so 30 dB decreases the energy of the gunshot is cut by a factor of 1000. This sounds like a huge decrease but in reality the gun is still plenty loud.
However, as I said, a gunshot is dangerously loud at 140-160 dB. By comparison a jet engine is 140 dB at 100 feet and a rock concert is 115 dB.
Is that running subsonic ammo?
But a 115 decibel rock concert is not the same as a split second 115 gun shot. Even OSHA has in their ratings for work safety a mix of time and decibels.
Yes, that is subsonic.....have not tried super on the 300 BO yet.
The Aguila stuff is all but silent and will kill a raccoon DRT.
Very accurate from a 10/22.
My quietest firearm is this. Sounds about like a pellet gun with some ammo not even using a suppressor.
Looong barreled bolt action. http://cz-usa.com/product/cz-452-ultra-lux-22-lr-28-bbl-beech-10-rd-mag/
Sounds like “reverse diesel” effect.
A long barreled 30 cal rifle, 90 gr lead bullet and several grains of bullseye is also very quiet @ 750 fps. Not a lot of ft/lbs of energy, but I won’t try to catch one.
That’s true.
Especially with a length of heater hose on the muzzle. (grin)
“For crying out loud, just screw on an old lawnmower muffler.”
And go to prison for 10 years if caught.
wire pulling lube. Interesting.
My Form 4, was approved on Jan. 5th. Waiting on the Stamp to arrive at my dealer. The Osprey will finally get out of jail.
