Bill Clinton came to the vote-rich city of Mason City on Wednesday night and recounted his wife's life experiences, recited her policy ideas, and ripped into the Republicans a bit. But what Mr. Clinton used to do so well -- and what Hillary Clinton needs, only days before the Iowa caucuses on Monday -- was nowhere to be found: a polished, piercing critique of an opponent, in this case Bernie Sanders.
At an event in Las Vegas last week, Mr. Clinton, 69, looked smaller and his voice seemed weaker than in past campaigns, and people had to strain to hear him at times.
He was at his best as he finessed the intricacies of politics and policy, but he occasionally meandered, leaving the audience, including some who had lined up for hours to see him, seeming more politely attentive than inspired.
At a critical moment when the former president is again answering the call to try to energize his wife's campaign, even some of Mr. Clinton's admirers are wondering if he has lost some of that old Clinton magic.
"He seemed perfunctory, looked gaunt, didn't seem to captivate the crowd," said Jon Ralston, a veteran political commentator in Nevada, who attended a campaign event by Mr. Clinton in Reno last Friday. "I have seen him speak many times, and he just didn't seem to be the same guy. He could still summon stats and an anecdote or two, but not with the same verve."

Over the years the sex with hundreds of different women takes its toll.
He’s probably got herpes and a whole host of other std’s.
The VD is catching up to him
I’m afraid Ol’ Bill has petered out.
He knows better than anyone the trouble his wife is in.
A combination of multiple chronic venereal diseases, old age, and waking up to Hillary.
Didn’t Bill have a quadruple bypass a number of years ago? That can take it’s toll.
Bill Horndog probably has the tertiary form of one STD in particular.
Not unlike the final years of Al Capone.
IMO, “Clinton Inc.” dies with Bill. Hillary & Chelsea are both unlikable.
Energizer wears him out. It’s tough for an old guy to keep up.
As much as I like Jazz, there are some pop presentations of the concept that supercede that old standard for me.

“I know thee not, old man.” — 2HenryIV
LOL. The “magic” was gone in 2008 when Bill ranted and raved that some JV league politician who should be getting him coffee was successfully playing the race card against Hill and Bill. In the 1990s, most of the “magic” was the Democratic Pretorian Guard press defending him and spinning everything in his favor to prevent the evil Gingrich Republican Congress from “winning.”
The only way for Bill Clinton to make news now would be to finally release his medical records. That would be entertaining.
And just when do you think the last time that occurred.
Unless they had both passed out together: she in an alcoholic stupor, and he, stoned.
It would only have to happen once to drive most men to an early grave. If it happened more than once most men would volunteer to drive themselves.
That's because it was always a media illusion. Had the media treated Bill Clinton like the f***ing bastard he was, he would have never had any "Magic."
He was a lying sack of sh*t used car salesman/televangelist from the git-go, but the media warped everything to make it appear like this sack of sh*t con-man was reasonable and charming.
I saw right through the slimy son of a b*tch shortly after he came to national prominence.
And this is exactly correct. Bill was a piece of sh*t that the media built up into a charming likeable character because they refused to cover him the way they would a Republican.
The Democrat media is a *THREAT* to our lives, and we ought to be working on ways to destroy it, to grind it into powder and then burn the powder.
The Democrat media created the illusion of Clinton, and they also created the illusion of Obama, and we need to mash them into a bloody pulp for doing it.
Nothing gets solved in this nation until the public conscious is no longer informed by left wing operatives in the media.
That’s unfair. Years of inhaling cocaine and marijuana also rot the brain.
The American people may know they have been had, but they were had willingly.
I have believed that since the Carter years. And over that time I have figured out what I think is a solution, but I am astonished that it gets little traction. The issue of journalistic objectivity boils down to the fact that no one can know that they are objective, not even if you join a mutual admiration society and everyone in it proclaims that you are objective while you proclaim that they are objective. So anyone who claims that they are objective because they are a journalist is, at best, a self deceiver.
The actual bias of journalism is toward their own importance. Journalists are critics, as surely as “no news is good news” (because good news “isn’t news”). Journalists do not do things, they report on what others do. T. Roosevelt said that “It is not the critic who counts,” but journalists (being critics themselves) can never be sympathetic to that formulation. They prefer the opposite, Elizabeth Warren formulation: “You did’t build that.”
From that POV it is obvious why journalists are simpatico with other socialists. And of course, journalists are protected by 1A. But there is a chink in their armor: journalism functions as a monopoly. Ideologically, at least. According to Adam Smith, “ People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or some contrivance to raise prices.” And journalists “meet together” all the time. The Associated Press (note the name) newswire is a continuous virtual meeting of all major journalism - not for merriment or diversion, but precisely over the conduct of their “trade.”
Given that the Sherman Antitrust Act is a one-pager which does not define “conspiracy in restraint of trade,” Adam Smith’ definition would be useful in court. Perhaps the Associated Press and its membership, sued joint and serval liability, might find itself as surprised as Standard Oil was a century ago. There is no lack of people like George Zimmerman who have been abused by the “associated” nature of the press, and it would seem that the whole country is damaged in a very real way by its conspiracy.
The AP was found guilty of violating Sherman back in 1945, and it should be sued into oblivion now that its mission - the economical transmission of news over extremely expensive bandwidth - is obsolete. The Internet could not exist if bandwidth were as expensive now as it was in 1945 . . .
