Other Candidates May Join Donald Trump Away From Debate

DES MOINES - Donald J. Trump may have some company from other candidates at his counterprogramming event here on Thursday night during the Fox News-hosted Republican presidential campaign debate.

In an interview with MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Wednesday morning, Mr. Trump’s campaign manager, Corey Lewandowski, said that he had heard from other candidates “proactively” about attending the event that Mr. Trump will hold at Drake University at the same time as the debate.

Mr. Trump announced on Tuesday afternoon that he would skip the final debate before the Iowa caucuses, after Fox News officials issued a mocking statement about him following a day of escalating attacks. Mr. Trump had earlier said he would participate only if the moderator Megyn Kelly, with whom he clashed at the first G.O.P. debate last August, was removed.

The problem with the ambush is that it must work. Asking a question about immigration to a Hispanic candidate might be a home run for the candidate.

A question about “Islamophobia” might give a candidate a chance to go after Islamic terrorism.

Do you have any non-candidate favorites?

I’m thinking Gen Jack Keane would be good.

Susana Martinez governor of New Mexico.

Someone here said Alan West.

Rubio has risen a couple of points, so FoxNews/Stirwalt are pushing Rubio as the new go-to.

Contention: with Trump gone, the oxygen isn’t sucked out of the room and other candidates have a chance to shine.

[Trouble with that is that the audience will likely be about 2/3 less than it would have been with a Trump presence. The competing Trump Vets Rally on CNN could ruin FoxNews’s expected viewership.]

Heckuva good point. With excellent training aids. But y’know . . .

There’s something about the woman that makes her less than appealing. Is it her MSM aura? Or is it a sixth sense projection from her that seems more Caitlyn than feminine?

Just asking’.

Problem is, the questions are never “ questions’”
They are rants provided by hecklers who have no intention of letting the candidate answer
The only exercise is whether and how the candidate retakes control of the stage. Of course being “ rude’ to a muslima or an illegal. Even to the point of having to have her removed to stop the ranting, only reinforces what the left is really after

We have seen Trump shut down disrespectful people and even resort to removing hecklers and Sanders hand them his microphone
My guess is FOX may be rethinking how to use its invited hecklers vs Cruz

To me Rubio makes the most political sense to win
A dark horse would be Scott Walker
I think he and Trump would be a very effective team given the social and economic chaos they will inherit

I don’t see picking any non politician or anyone over age 50 mol

The proper response is to call them out for opining

“Is there a question hiding somewhere in this monologue?”

He’s a spokesman for them, but he has his own independent business, and as a 4 star general retiree, he makes about 170,000 a year before he even brushes his teeth.

Pushing Trump out is a major blow to Fox. I dislike Trump (I see him as a phony) but keeping the snippy hot babe as moderator is going to cost Fox a HUGE amount of money.

She should have stepped out of the chair while taking the “I don’t want this to be about me” high ground. The ratings will be as bad as the Democrat debates.

>> Pennsylvania, though, is intriguing and would change the game <<

Kasich was born in PA and keeps in touch with the Steelers fans. He’s a much stronger bet for carrying PA than is Santorum — not to mention the fact that Kasich is very popular among independents and Dhims in Ohio. So I think he’ll be high on Trump’s list of potential running mates.

It'd be fun to watch him fire his M9 next to some GS-15's ear at the VA.

>> Susana Martinez governor of New Mexico <<

She was just busted by the cops in ABQ for making too much noise at a drunken party. Might help her appeal to Dhims?

Those at the kiddies table have only something to gain by going to Trumps event. No downside as I see it.

And not to notice her sleazegab effort on Howie Stern’s radio show.
