CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Panthers quarterback Cam Newton suggested for the first time Wednesday that race may play a factor in why he's become a lightning rod for public criticism.
"I'm an African-American quarterback that scares people because they haven't seen nothing that they can compare me to," said the 6-foot-5, 245-pound Newton.
The No. 1 pick in the 2011 NFL draft out of Auburn, Newton has his share of detractors who either don't like how he plays, his celebrations or his abundance of self-confidence.

Newton is a very gifted player. But his bubris has overtaken him. What author calls confidence is arrogant asshood. He had it while at Auburn, too. Cam Newton is not a nice person by any stretch. And if folks have yet to figure it out, he has a giant racist chip on his shoulder.
I didn’t like Tiger Woods when he came out because of all the fist pumping. No humility, no class. Tiger turned out to be a man of low character. I expect to learn the same eventually about Cam.

Cam Newton is a big man with speed and agility. He has an amazing won/loss record for a rookie, and is headed to the Super Bowl.
We shall see how well the Carolina Panthers do with Cam come Super Bowl Sunday!
Cam you’re not breaking new ground. There have been AA quarterbacks who have won the Superbowl. For some reason Doug Williams and Russell Wilson didn’t scare me. I slept soundly after those games. Right now it’s 50/50 if I will even watch this one. Crap like this isn’t exactly enticing me.
