Veterans group to Trump: Keep your donations
Right Scoop ^ | Jan 27, 2016

WASHINGTON (CNN) - At least one veteran's group doesn't want any donations from Donald Trump's fundraiser for veterans. Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America founder Paul Rieckhoff tweeted Wednesday that he would decline any contributions that came from the event, which Trump has proposed in place of his attending Fox News' debate this week.

I just cancelled my monthly donation to Wounded Warriors after reading about bloated salaries. Trump needs to avoid this group. CBS just did an expose’ on them and the media will tie their practices to Trump. They spend more than 60% on admin i.e. huge salaries per my research.

What’s happening also reveals the real intentions of the “donor/fundraiser”

They claim to be nonpartisan, and if so, kudos to them for making an effort to maintain distance from a political battle.

Reminiscent of the kerfuffle when the Koch Brothers, et al, donated $250 million to Sloan-Kettering for a new cancer wing. Many said MSK shouldn’t accept it. I think, in the end, they DID accept it.

Mr. Rieckhoff is a tool.

Even a brief internet search indicates his history as a liberal activist. And the fact that he turns down, on behalf of his veteran's organization, assistance for veterans, makes no sense if in fact, he truly seeks to help vets.

So yes, I would call his motives into question here.

If FoxNews can’t be trusted to have it’s moderators conform to reasoned debate behavior, why should Trump participate?

Do you really think bringing a member of Islam on the panel to trash Trump is reasoned?

This isn’t Trump being political. It’s not for political gain.

It’s to send a message to all the Networks that the days of them screwing with our candidates IS OVER.

I would ask you and your wife to reconsider.

Why defend this sort of FoxNews behavior against Trump providing an alternate event to punish them, and to help the vets?

What’s wrong with killing two birds with one stone?

Trump does it for free, Vets benefit, FoxNews gets it’s face rubbed in it.

In a word: PERFECT

Just went through their financials very quickly( they have 2012 and 2013 listed. Nothing for 2014).

Is there a way we can find out a breakdown on administrative salaries? Thanks.

The are lots of worthy veterans organizations out there that aren't as needy for attention as IAVA...including more than two dozen in Iowa.

Wow. TRUMP’s people will totally salt the Earth!

IAVA has liberals and conservatives. The major knock for the founder being liberal is that like Trump, he supports gays in the military. But he’s quite conservative in other ways. It’s better than Wounded Warrior Project:

According to Charity Navigator, WWP allocates 55 percent of its revenue to program expenses and 44.8 percent to fundraising and administrative expenses.[25] WWP received a “D” rating from the American Institute of Philanthropy, C+ by Charity Watch, and “three out of four stars” from Charity Navigator.

I hope not.

"According to Charity Navigator, WWP allocates 55 percent of its revenue to program expenses and 44.8 percent to fundraising and administrative expenses."

I think so. I know that WWP has taken some heat lately and I'm not going to pretend to know all of the details. But I do believe the benefit is specifically meant for WWP. So any other charity that is stepping up to refuse donations from an event that isn't even for them seems disingenuous.

“NON-POLITICAL” is BS. By refusing Trump’s donation they made a POLITICAL STATEMENT.

If they don’t need Trump’s money they don’t need mine.

Their refusal only hurts the people they claim to support. Bless their little hearts. Trump will find a better group.

Vets’ group: 92 percent of “D” or “F” grades on supporting troops go to Republicans (2010 article):

http://www.rawstory.com/2010/10/vets-group-142-republicans-d-f-veterans-affairs/

“A new report by a leading veterans group has awarded grades to members of Congress based on their support of veterans issues. One party failed miserably.

Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) gave out 154 D and F grades. 142 of those went to Republicans and 12 to Democrats — meaning that 92 percent of the D and F grades went to members of the GOP.

Of the 94 congressmen that received A or A+ grades, 91 are Democrats and three are Republicans.”

I’m not sure of your meaning there.

Trump

The leader of the vet charity?

Both?

The IAVA is one of the largest and most politically influential veterans groups in the United States

Sure it is...and you signed up here today just to tell us that.

My wife and I don’t debate politics. It’s a good rule. We are both conservatives and U might add both US Army vets. We generally see things the same way and inevitably vote straight R ticket anyway.

As for Trump, he should hold an event for Veterans divorced from his problems with the networks. That would be a good thing and something I would support.

For those wishing to support this NON-POLITICAL Veterans Organization:

Just a little look into their site and some reasearch tells me otherwise.

In addition to the founder adding himself to the conversation like he speaks for all members of the organization.

Pay no attention to what this creepy, leftist, Obama supporter says.

“He has been a vocal advocate for gay rights and the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell—and reform of the military’s Osexual assault policies. [14]
