I’m a practicing Catholic-I wouldn’t vote for an atheist-or a muslim-for president-that said, if I were letting the church influence my vote, I’d be voting democrat-but those are not my values, so I will ignore the church on this. The current pope is an all but avowed socialist from a communist country-he won’t even take a strong stand on moral issues like homosexual marriage or defeating radical islam, and insists we must let every border jumping, river swimming illegal from the 3d world come here, be fed and housed no matter what their intentions. No thanks-the church should not be involved in politics-and I’ll bet I’m not the only one who wishes Pope Benedict would change his mind and come back...

Pope Benedict was wonderful. (she said, wistfully)

Count this Catholic in also!
When Trump retires in 8 years he can convert and be a Yuge Pope! He likes Gold so the Vatican would be a perfect fit. His delivery reminds me of the priests at my high school. Tough, Funny, No nonsense, and Great Men.
Go Trump

Same here.

Sadly in my parish most of the folks were for Obama (at least the first time around) as well as Bill Clinton in other elections.

They say Catholics always vote for liberals.

I guess a whole lot of FR Catholics are okay with voting for a liberal as long as he calls himself a Republican.

Glad to see I’m not the only one not allowing the church to influence my vote-a few hundred years ago, we’d have all been burned as heretics, I guess...

“Government” can be defined using Romans 13. I want a government that restrains evil and thus keeps order among fallen man. Pagan rulers have been fufulling this role for millennia...even if they were rotten.

We cannot do without order.

Trump seems the closest ELECTABLE man to restore order that I can see.

The Church has nothing officially to do with this ‘Catholic vote’ organization. In any case the majority of bishops would tell you not to vote for Trump because he is too mean and conservative, this Catholic vote dude doesn’t seem to dig him because he isn’t proven to be conservative enough in his estimation.

This country would be better off if Catholics couldn’t vote. That’s how bad things are.

Catholic priests, bishops, and nuns are 99% economic illiterates.

They live in housing that is paid for by the Church. They have cooks and housekeepers. Other people pick-up their healthcare and retirement. They are comparatively pampered. They have never had to exist in the real economy.

I was never worried about his motives or decisions. I was torn when he chose to retire; happy for him but concerned for the future.

This country would be better off if Catholics couldn't vote.

I'm Catholic and I am not going to object to that statement. Too many people I go to church with show up at every Pro Life vigil, then turn around and pull the lever for Democrats who have never met an abortion they would not fund.

This country would be better off if Catholics couldn't vote.

This country would be better off if women couldn't vote.

This country would be better off if Blacks couldn't vote.

This country would be better off if Hispanics couldn't vote.

This country would be better off if Jews couldn't vote.

This country would be better off if city dwellers couldn't vote. ...

How far do you want to take that logic?

While that may be true, and any publication is entitled to their opinion-if Trump becomes the nominee-conservative enough or not-then we are left with either Trump or an out-and-out socialist who is for open borders, disarming us so we are soft targets like Europeans, and who practically worships abortion as a sacrament. I think for a principled conservative, there is only one way to vote.

I am going to carve out an exception for my own state of Louisiana, where the Catholic culture seems really to have made a difference politically, especially in life issues. I can only ascribe it to the fact that our Catholic roots aren’t Irish, as they are elsewhere in America, but French. Can’t explain why, but it really seems to have made a difference.

But nationally — yeah, we’re a net negative. Shameful.

Logic? What logic? I’m not constructing a logical argument. I’m stating a plain fact, speaking as a conservative, based on American history during my lifetime.

But since you bring it up, I will readily entertain arguments that the franchise is too diluted among free riders and other assorted non-stakeholders to retain any meaning or value.

If anyone in this parish votes democrat, they are keeping it a secret-there hasn’t even been a democrat to run for county office here in at least 10 years-but this is a rural area...

I did not even read it, as I could not get past the headline. I don’t know what started the stupid Internet practice of using a period after each word, but such usage signals to me that the writer is not too swift.
