NPR apologizes for map that erased Israel

WASHINGTON — National Public Radio’s (NPR) ombudsman Elizabeth Jensen released an explanation and apology Monday for a map published on the news organization’s website that erased Israel from the Middle East.

On January 24, NPR’s blog Goats and Soda, which covers health and culture issues around the world, ran a piece titled, “What Are You Afraid Of In 2016? Globetrotters Share Their Fears.” The post focused on travelers’ anxieties for the coming year, and included an illustration of the Middle East and North Africa, the region of the world that travelers most perceive as being at risk.

“The map portion of the illustration had a number of mistakes,” Jensen wrote. “The most notable being that Israel was labeled as ‘Palestine.'”

The pro-Israel website HonestReporting.com was the first to recognize the blunder. Its managing editor, Simon Plosker, wrote on their website, “It is completely unacceptable for NPR to publish an image that erases Israel from the map. That nobody at NPR recognized just how problematic this image is on multiple levels speaks volumes about the deficiencies in the editorial process.”

NPR apologises for being caught.

Exactly. Not surprised since they are funded by this occupation government.

Honestly, it was all just a mistake. Map Making is a relatively new ‘science’ and until we get enough adventurous explorers who can verify the boundaries of some of the mysterious ruins of lost civilizations like the Jews which are now buried under the ever growing and expanding NEW PALESTINE, well, updates might have to wait. It’s not like we can just wave a magic wand or our finger and instantly edit a map.

First CNN, now NPR. I'm sure it's purely coincidental.

Right.

If your understanding is that mistakes are often made when working under time pressure and you know you are working under time pressure, then it is your responsibility to review your work to ensure mistakes are corrected BEFORE publication. Apologies after the fact are hollow.

As far as “at risk” places to go on vacation, I would have to say Israel doesn’t count and “Palestine” does.

Israel is the only country on the planet where these “mistakes” are made frequently.

Israel is the only country in the world that has to prove it's right to exist and be accepted by the international community on a daily basis.

Israel is the only country that the UN condemns on a daily basis despite hundreds of ongoing wars and many other “occupations”.

In short, it does not matter what the Jews of Israel do so they should just look after their interests and flip the finger to those nations that knee-jerk reflex condemn...oops, did I leave out Obama’s Samantha Powers? The world OWES Israel tremendous debt for many things she has done. Today, the world is at her doorstep begging her to teach them how to deal with terror. HYPOCRITES ALL!

It wasn’t a deficiency, it was on purpose - they just got caught, and they regret that.

NPR was just premature.

Nobama put the release date of Jan. 19, 2017. when he issued the revised map.

I find your statements most ironic. Years ago maps of the National Geographic Society were considered the ultimate authority. Today maps of historic authority are considered but suggestions and the National Geographic today is just a suggestion of accurate history. I loved that magazine once, but what I loved is gone.

Dear Israel,

We apologize because we are so freaking stupid.
