Cruz challenges Trump to one-on-one debate [at the Mark Levin show]
The Hill ^ | 01/26/2016 | Harper Neidig

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz says if rival Donald Trump won't face the entire GOP field in Thursday's Fox News debate, then he wants to go one-on-one.

"If Donald is afraid of Megyn Kelly, I would like to invite him on your show to participate in a one-on-one debate between me and Donald, mano y mano," Cruz said during an interview on "The Mark Levin Show," adding that Trump could choose the moderator.

"And the fact that Donald is now afraid to appear on the debate stage, that he doesn't want his record questioned, I think that reflects a lack of respect for the men and women of Iowa, that he's unwilling to go to Des Moines and be questioned."

Cruz also argued that Trump dropping out of the debate shows that the front-runner isn't qualified to be president.

"This is a job interview, you need to be willing to answer the questions of the American people, and if Donald is afraid to defend his record, that speaks volumes," he said.

"And if he thinks Megyn Kelly is so scary, what exactly does he think he'd do with Vladimir Putin? I promise you Putin is a lot scarier than Megyn Kelly."

Cruz added that Trump needs to explain to voters "how he is prepared to be commander-in-chief if he's terrified of a television host."

The comments came shortly after the Trump campaign announced Tuesday that he would not participate in the Fox News debate on Thursday.

In a press conference on Tuesday, Trump referred to Kelly as "lightweight" and said that she's "not a reporter."

Cruz would mop the floor with Trump.

Until Trump asks Cruz "...how many millions of illegal Mexicans will you let in?" and then follows that with "...how many hundreds of thousands of islamic migrants are you going to let in?"

Ted Cruz is an intelligent and talented man. But not a president.

I tend to agree with your "not a President" part of the statement.

However, after Cruz's appearance with bat$hit crazy Back I'd drop the "intelligent-talented" part of your statement.

Just my humble opinion.

Trump will accept as long as there are TWO debates, and both are in Canada.

He knows very well this isn’t a fear issue.

But people will believe what they want to believe...

Grow up. Cruz is a one sided politician. He wouldn’t know how to handle the big time. He doesn’t have what it takes. America needs a leader, not another lawyer.

Rush is for Cruz. Tries to hide it, but it still shows, he and Levin both.

Yeah that why Macy’s is having so many SALES??? Get real! A lot has changed about Cruz. For months he was all cozy with Trump, little to say until suddenly he stabbed Trump in the back and tried to act like a big man. he showed his spoiled brat schoolboy side and people are dropping him. What happened? Cruz has been found out and we don’t like what we see. Only his diehards are sticking.

I want a leader. Cruz isn’t it. end of story. Outside of a courtroom Cruz is nil. TRUMP can handle things anywhere, anytime and he’s not a whiner like Cruz.

Cruz record USSC 9 cases. 5 wins, 4 losses. Average, not genius. He’s also careless about things that matter.

“He [Trump] has benefited from the media like no one else”

Yep. And all the while they were looking for any opportunity to take him down. He played their sorry asses, and made it look easy.

In fact, he already articulated what he meant in that debate just a few moments prior to Trump’s “defense” of these people Cruz was CLEARLY NOT TALKING ABOUT.
.................................................
Don’t mock a lion in his den. New York is Trump’s town. Cruz should never have belittled an entire state. Arrogant, stupid move, and Trump turned it back on him. ALL’s fair in love and war. Politics is WAR.

He gets plenty of practice. What do you think a press conference is? A walk in the park?

It is quite a disappointment to me.   REC is starting to sound a lot like JEB, and his own recent "challenges" to Trump.   I believe the recent steep slippage in his poll numbers has Cruz getting desperate, like Jeb has been for a while now.

My prediction is that this move will turn out good for Trump, and bad for Fox and the lesser candidates.

Trump also pointed out in his press conference tonight how Cruz had mentioned how he "forgot" he was a Canadian citizen, and how Cruz had claimed he "forgot" to include information about the substantial financial assistance he had received from Goldman-Sachs and Citigroup, on the required government forms.   He does appear to be a bit "forgetful" at times.

Trump is being quite lenient on Cruz by saying Cruz simply “forgot” about his Canadian citizenship and his loans. Trump could’ve instead said Cruz is a lying politician, but he didn’t.

I still suspect Trump and Cruz may be playing us... that they’re in cahoots.

I say this because Trump and Cruz aren’t attacking each other all that hard.

He played their sorry asses, and made it look easy.

You don't know much about news editors. They picked the candidate they think they can beat. Trump's negatives say they're right.

Trump’s poll numbers continue to rise. Polling in the upper 40%’s nationally, pulling ahead in Iowa. I guess they got it wrong then, didn’t they?

Generally speaking, the left wing media attacks the Republican they fear the most. They also like ratings. Trump exploited this schizophrenia of theirs masterfully and used it to his benefit.
