MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa -- Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump says he will not attend a debate scheduled for Thursday night in Des Moines, an unexpected twist just days before voters here launch the election process.
"I probably won't be doing the debate. I'm going to have something else in Iowa," he said during a press conference on Tuesday afternoon.
After the press conference, Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski confirmed to The Washington Post that Trump would "definitely not" participate in Thursday's Fox News debate.
"He's definitely not participating in the Fox News debate," Lewandowski said. "His word is his bond."
He said Trump would remain in Iowa as planned and would instead host an event in the state to raise money for wounded warriors and other veterans groups.
Trump has made such threats before, but he said that the Fox News Channel, which is hosting the debate Thursday night, had gone too far by issuing press statements on Tuesday that he said mocked his concern about Megyn Kelly, one of the debate co-moderators.
"They're dealing with someone who's a little bit different. They can't toy with me like they toy with everybody else," he added.
When Trump saw the press release from Fox, "I said, 'Bye bye,'" he said.
Trump said his event on Thursday will benefit military veterans and service members wounded in war.

So now Fox is giving voice to people of a religion that advocates killing other people?
Anybody involved with that release should be fired. What a shoddy piece of journalism. Nobody thought he would walk. They didn’t read his book.

Trump got tipped off that FOX was planning to play a trick on him .. so he decided to do something else.
So, I guess writing legislation for the Ft Hood soldiers who were killed or wounded is just not important. But, I guess I already told you this.
That position is valid, however it presumes a debate where such questions would be asked, and asked cleanly without pretense or bias.
That presumption is in my opinion invalid so my based on the recent history of all of these debates and the moderators selected for this one.

I’m a Trump supporter but I don’t like this and it will hurt his numbers and possibly cost him Iowa. It makes him seem petty and it looks like a “take my ball and go home” outburst.
Show up and debate. Somebody get in this guys ear and tell him how bad this looks
Donald Trump is smart in so many ways. He knew Fox News was setting up a trap. Megyn Kelly was probably foaming at the mouth with anticipation. I felt she cared more about getting juicy ratings rather than getting the candidates views on issues.
Too bad Sarah Palin had been as smart. I always wondered why she agreed to be interviewed by Katie Couric.
Trump couldn’t deal with Fox, so he walked away? Ironic!

The Russians wouldn’t give on any point .. and demanded USA give everything.
Reagan got up from the table and walked out. The same idiot media went ballistic.
But, that’s when the Russians knew they had a hard-nose guy who was not going to fold and bend like the others. It would appear to me that Trump is doing the same thing .. just a slight change in the method.
Well, Bill has been known to make waves at FOX when he thinks they’ve stepped in it.

I agree .. it is a coup .. the reason is .. he’s upending everything the elites believe you have to do or say in order to win an election. Trump is doing NONE of that.
The elites know this is setting a precedent that others will now follow. They don’t like it one bit.
Correction, you have watched for 40 years and not seen a debate yet.
It’s been my impression that the “Wounded Warrior” event is already a functioning event. While FOX has been playing games .. Trump was making plans.
This surely proves he has more than a 6th grade education and language skills.
And, the person who made the 6th grade comment obviously doesn’t have a clue what kind of education Trump has had.

He does that when he knows the legislation is going to pass anyway .. and there are other things in that bill that he is totally against.
He’s principled. He got the legislation passed anyway, and he didn’t have to vote for some of the JUNK stuff.
I wish people would figure this stuff out so the media can’t drag everybody around by lobbing smack downs at Cruz. I’m getting really tired of it.
