Vietnam's ruling Communist Party was on track Tuesday for a smooth power transition after settling a power struggle between the party chief and the pro-business prime minister trying to unseat him.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung effectively withdrew from the contest to become the Communist Party general secretary, clearing the way for his rival to keep the post in what appears to be a compromise to present a united front to the nation, delegates at a party congress said Monday. [...]

The path is now clear for Nguyen Phu Trong to stay as general secretary, the de facto top position in Vietnam's collective leadership. ...

And AP thought this was important enough to cover. A “smooth power transition” from the incumbent dictator to the incumbent dictator.

Too many American “journalists” would be perfectly happy to see our nation subjected to this same kind of governance.

Oh, indeed.

Thus far, no jokes about the name of the man who withdrew the challenge to the incumbent dictator.

‘Viet Commies Eliminate Dung’

The gooks could have saved everybody a lot of trouble if they hadn’t truckled to the Soviets and Red Chinese.
We had OSS advisors in North Vietnam during WWII and the French in our pockets after the war.

Screw ‘em. They made their choices then and they’re making them now.
And I make my choices: if I see a ‘Made in Vietnam’ label, whatever it is goes back on the shelf/rack.

Obama is the result of our refusal to get rid of communism when we had the strength to do so, remember.

Cannot recall ever seeing a made in Vietnam label on anything, come to think of it. Then again, I do not inspect as close as I should, perhaps.

That said, reading about guys going back there on remembrance tours freaks me out. Beside strange memories, they have to have commie "minders" constantly watching them.

The VC could have saved a lot of trouble by not starting a war that killed millions of Vietnamese, “land reforms” that killed hundreds of thousands and yet still deprived peasants of private land ownership, massacres that killed tens of thousands of people in the South, and retarded policies that prevented the country from escaping Third World status for almost 50 years. And let’s not even get started on the “re-education camps.” The Commies (and begrudgingly, I might add) decided that some capitalism might actually be a good thing, after their Soviet sugar daddy collapsed in the 90s. I guess the millions buried in cemeteries and mass graves across the country is a “fair” price to pay for transitioning to a market economy over the last 20 years.

Thanks, T-Bone Texan. It’s pretty amazing how so many people tend to forget (or more accurately, ignore) these things when they deal with thugs, especially thugs in business suits.
