I think the reality of both Free Republic and The Rush show is that this is almost evenly split between folks who are supporters, so take sides at the peril of the show/site in what is a race that will be decided, a race in which each side has some legitimate arguments. I’ve donated hundreds to the Cruz campaign, but had some nagging doubts that were brought to bear by his unwillingness to go on the offensive. When he finally did, it was too late in my estimation. I’ll know if I was right or wrong in about a month. Right now, though, all the numbers say I was right, and my nagging questions still haven’t been answered.

Yes, there are some good things about Cruz; which I have never denied.

His family story would be better, if he hadn't lied about some things/just left them out of his book.

His father loves his son...now...but his story is laced with some rather strange things; as is his mother's story. But I'm not trying to tar Ted with his parents' past problems/indiscretions.

What I find truly disturbing, is the whole Beck association.

Sharpton isn't MY "buddy" !

Am I then to assume that the THREE queers who support Ted are YOUR buddies; even the two in NYC, in whose apartment a dead young man was found, a week after Cruz was there?

Rush has control over which calls to take.

He also used to correct the callers who said crazy things; today he didn't....when one caller said that a Trump presidency would be the same or worse than Obama's. And the other caller also said nutty things, which Rush also didn't refute.

Rush, with the exception of W., hasn't pushed for anyone in a primary.

Ted surrounds himself and begs donations from some VERY peculiar people. He also was BEST FRIENDS with Roberts and brought him into the W team/administratio

I can’t find it back, but a few days ago, someone posted a letter from Cruz about how Roberts would be a good pick for SC. But I remember during one of the first debates, He and Bush having a back and forth where Cruz blamed GWB for Roberts, Jeb said that Cruz had endorsed Roberts. Cruz then went on to say he had wanted his old boss Luttig not Roberts.

Soemething doesn’t smell right here.

Please stop with the "warn you" crap. It's insulting and suggests Trump voters are stupid. I can assure you every Trump supporter I know has good solid reasons for liking him and it has nothing to do with a "personality cult."

What you, Levin, NR and all the rest need to be SERIOUSLY asking is "why haven't conservatives--real, dyed in the wool conservatives---fallen in line with Cruz?" This is the question many Cruz supporters just don't want to deal with (has nothing to do with birth certificates).

I thought Rush did believe Cruz to be the more doctrinaire conservative, so when his brother David wrote an article that basically said that, then I was pretty sure that’s his opinion.

But, if he can mouth support for Romney once Romney won it all, then he can do the same for Trump.

I assume he will.

During the old HANGING CHADS fight and then the ensuing SCOTUS battle, Ted brought in his old pal, Roberts, saying that "he is a GREAT CONSTITUTIONAL LAWYER, BRILLIANT....." etc.; using the same words he and others now use to describe himself.

Yes, he DID write a GLOWING letter in support of Roberts for the SCOTUS.

I too saw that he NOW disavowed the whole Roberts thing and threw him under the bus.

It's the same ruse he has used re his TPA vote, the mess-up with the FEC filing, lying to the people of Texas about financing his own senatorial campaign with ALL his own money.; implying that he no longer had any savings or assets of ANY kind!

Just recently, LYING to the people at a N.H. stop, that he and Heidi did NOT now have ANY health insurance at all, but he actually DOES.

There's a lot more of this, in the same vein and it sticks in my craw.

I agree and concur with you NP, sometimes that saying “discretion is the better part of valor” applies most to telling one’s life story, in this age of “total disclosure” it is still better to be a bit circumspect as to what is revealed and what is not. But that ship has sailed.

I too am very surprised and concerned over this association with Glenn Beck, the Glenn Beck of years ago who made some very good points and had some very positive attributes to him, is not the one we’re seeing now, he’s got the franchise on moon-battery now. (and that’s not a 12 volt either lol)

PS, you have FReepmail. :)

I can't find it back, but a few days ago, someone posted a letter from Cruz about how Roberts would be a good pick for SC.

Cruz did support Roberts AFTER Bush nominated him. Cruz wanted Luttig, whom Cruz had worked for.

He also was BEST FRIENDS with Roberts and brought him into the W team/administratio

Not exactly. Roberts worked in the Reagan and Bush 41 administrations, and was nominated for a judgeship by Bush 41 in 1992. So he was already well known to the Bush team long before Cruz showed up. Cruz DID bring Roberts in on the Florida recount case - but considering that Roberts had argued 39 cases before the Supreme Court, winning 25 of them, can you think of another lawyer that would have been a better choice?

We'll just have to wait and see.

I believe that you are probably correct; however, he has begun to grate on me, as he did when he talked about nothing but TOE FUNGUS, for weeks on end, during a time when I think he was high on the Oxycotton (SP ? ).

Interesting. I admit I’m a little naïve when it comes to these things. When somebody posts to me, I just assume I’m talking to a regular guy or gal sitting at home telling me what’s on their mind. But it would make sense that certain campaigns may pay people to post on sites like this. Any rule of thumb on how to identify them? I suppose a signup date of less than a year might be an indicator.

“Any rule of thumb on how to identify them? I suppose a signup date of less than a year might be an indicator.”

it’s just a gut feeling several of us have based on based on massive frequency of posting and continuous ad hominem attacks on others. no hard evidence.

signup date not helpful. Looks like most are 1998/1999/2000 accounts that started becoming active again after long absences. possibly hacked or purchased accounts?

And now YOU have a reply. :-)

Often, the better part of valor is silence...which Ted and his crew have yet to learn; I fear.

The thing about CRAZY BECK, is that when he was on T.V., he did put out some good info ( the Van Jones stuff was his best ), but the American history that he talked about, was stuff most if not all grammar school kids knew in the '50s, but it was all NEW to Beck! And as he breathlessly spouted on, like some kind of self declared "genius", who knew about this stuff but his idiot audience didn't, and he was the MOSES BRINGING THEM THE TEN COMMANDMENTS, drove me crazy. So I stopped watching him after a while.

Ted's joined at the hip with Glenn act goes back a long way, I guess. The first I knew of it was when they teamed up to give out teddy bears and soccer balls to the damned horde of ILLEGAL ALIENS. I found THAT disgusting and stupid!

But now, looking at that corrupt intermingling of Ted backers, Glenn's "charities", et al, I do question Cruz's judgement. Glenn is INSANE and corrupt.

I was under the impression that Cruz was a constitutional scholar for 4 years at the time of that video. That is where something doesn’t fit for me.

Some of those nics I recognize; others I don’t remember EVER seeing from the old days here. But back then, some people had many more than one account...sleeper accounts that they kept for when they were banned, got a time out, or used to talk to themselves with.

My first thought was wondering what the current price is for a FreeRepublic account.

Thinking about it a little more, I suppose those people that make a living working for political campaigns may have a number of accounts that they can dust off whenever the next election cycle rolls around. Give the signin info to a staffer and let them spend their time on the best conservative forum out there trashing the opponents.

The thing is, most of those kinds of posters end up doing harm to their candidates, but only if they’re countered. It’s easy enough to respond to them and expose the unseriousness of their arguments. But it takes effort, and if they’re not countered then they succeed by drowning out serious discussion.
