Teens Facing Expulsion for Spelling Racial Slur on T-Shirts for Class Photo
Yahoo ^ | Jan. 25, 2016 | Beth Greenfield

An ignorant moment among six high school seniors - who spelled out a racial slur with lettered T-shirts they were wearing for a school photo and posted it to social media on Friday - has ignited national outrage that shows no sign of stopping.

Civil rights activists are even planning to hold a protest on Monday at the school, Desert Vista High School in Phoenix. That's where the six white girls, part of a larger group of students who wore lettered T-shirts and stood together to spell out "Best You've Ever Seen Class of 2016" for a yearbook photo, rearranged themselves for a private photo. For that one, they stood together spelling out the word "NI**ER," laughing and smiling at their spelling trick.

A Change.org petition with more than 37,000 signatures is calling for the girls to be expelled and for the principal, Christine Barela, to be fired. "Arizona has been stricken with another blatant expression of racism and ignorance," the petition says, seemingly referring to another recent social media controversy in which an Arizona State University student tweeted the N-word along with a photo of herself and a friend holding freshly picked cotton.

It’s not a racial slur. It’s NI**ER. If they had said “kill all Whites”, they would be invited to speak at the democrat convention.

Expulsion is too much, a one day suspension might be more like it. Very stupid.

Why can black people call each other this term over and over, but white people can’t?

Black Privilege.

I just don’t give a crap about the “offended” any more. I see those who want to ruin these girls lives over a bad joke as much more of a problem than some dumb teenagers. I do believe the principal should be fired, but for imposing a ridiculous 5 day suspension.

Of course the article points out that they were WHITE girls. If they were Hispanic (eg Mexican) I’m sure it would of said white Hispanic.

This is on the level of a senior prank. Just suspend them for a day and be done with it.

Wonder what the Principal does about the “students” there who routinely use racist pejoratives about “Gringos” in Spanish?

Any kid in Arizona can tell you about that.

My lily white son was explaining the difference to me.

“Ok - whatever. Just don’t go downtown and say ‘Hey Nigga’ to a black guy.”

Let’s ruin some students’ lives because they spoke taboo words. No violence, no organization, no malice - just some words you hear constantly used by the media and entertainment complex.

Does this same thing happen in China or Russia?

I dont think this will stand up to court scrutiny. It’s too vague. It. Would just as well be for NIPPER the ‘His Masters voice’ RCA record player dog. It’s in the eye and brain and opinion of the viewer. Much too subjective.

From article:

“Dejah Brightly, a student at the school, told AZ Central in a video that when she saw the photo..... Ke’ale Nicholson, said, “I do feel anger because I am black myself....And Tadj Jefferson, a student and yearbook photographer....”

Dejah, Ke’ale, and Tadj. Who would have guessed they would be upset.

A teachable moment at worst. Certain elements in this country would have these six girls executed in the public square.

“rearranged themselves for a private photo. For that one, they stood together spelling out the word “NI**ER,” laughing and smiling at their spelling trick.”

Maybe they didn’t even notice. Prove they did. Discipline them for standing side by side. Attorneys are salivating over this. What did my client, a individual, do?
She stood there for a group of friends. The letter “R” was on her shirt.
That is all she actually did. Can you be expelled for having the letter R on your shirt? Did the school letting the kids make the photo instruct the girl wearing “I” not to stand anywhere near the girl wearing “N”?

And double down. Arrange letter shirts to call the principal names. Act completely clueless and innocent. Do not agree an inch that it was deliberate.

Be patient, Obama has begun the process of pardoning all the violent criminals to free up cell space for those perpetrating thought crimes.

They probably think they are socialists too because they use social media.
