President Obama is now praising Hillary as she continues her primary struggle with Sen. Bernie Sanders - but he's cautious not to dismiss the avowed Democratic socialist's success with primary voters.
In an interview with Politico's Glenn Thrush, Obama repeatedly praised Clinton's personality and intelligence, calling her "wicked smart" but also "warm and funny."
Obama's public comments come as Clinton supporters are alarmed by Sanders' resurgence in polling of early states.
"I've gotten to know Hillary really well, and she is a good, smart, tough person who cares deeply about this country," Obama said.
He admitted that Clinton was a bit "rusty" when she got back into the presidential campaign, but says she's well equipped to be his successor.
"Her strengths, which are the fact that she's extraordinarily experienced - and, wicked smart and knows every policy inside and out," he said, claiming she would be capable of governing the country on day one.
Obama also praised her for the ability to "project genuine concern in smaller groups and to interact with people, where folks realize she's really warm and funny and engaging."
"She has been in the public eye for a long time and in a culture in which new is always better," he said. "And, you know, you're always looking at the bright, shiny object that people don't, haven't seen before. That's a disadvantage to her."
Obama explained that he understood how hard it was for her to campaign against him in 2008, but also signaled respect for his former Secretary of State.
"I'll always remember the sheer strength, determination, endurance, stick-to-it-ness, never-give-up attitude that Hillary had during those primaries," he said, adding that "she had to do everything that I had to do, except, like Ginger Rogers, backwards in heels."

Wicked evil, maybe...smart? No. Funny? If you think jokes like intentionally not understanding wiping a hard drive are funny, then she’s funny like a frigging heart attack.

Translation: Obama has ordered Lynch to have the FBI drop their national security investigation of Clinton. Obama views Hillary as the best option to preserve his “legacy” and to keep his commissars out of jail. She no doubt has made a huge donation through her foundation to the Obama library.
After reading between the lines, this is a bad sign although expected. Obama is basically telling the FBI is eff off. This is his counter to the FBI leaks.
Comey won’t let up. I look for him to resign in protest following completion of the investigation when Lynch does nothing. Look for huddling at the White House. Best case for Obama and the FBI is the appointment of a special prosecutor. Obama washes his hands. Hillary is tried and convicted in the court of public opinion.
The criminality will be too blatant to ignore. Trump will shove this up the Democrats’ butts. The media dogs with their fixation on Trump will render Hillary as dead as road kill by foaming at the mouth at Trump.
This about an individual with whom underlings were instructed not to make eye contact or speak to unless spoken to...

Alternative scenario: Obama fires Comey and orders the DOJ to investigate FBI leaks, claiming collusion with the Republicans and Fox News.
Comey is obviously out of there anyway. Obama can’t see the forest or the trees. Both Obama and Hillary are going to be run over by the Mack truck of the FBI investigation results.
If Obama thinks it’s tough now he’s continuing to show how clueless he was, is, and always will be.
