Tolerant Austin, TX will not tolerate being made fun of

Austin, Texas is supposed to be capital of coolness, the hippest place to be for a certain kind of people. SXSW and all that. But city officials there did not take it well when a municipal employee enlivened a 45 page presentation by using a satirical map of the city to demonstrate a point about a street.

The map, which the staffer apparently downloaded from the Internet, made the rounds months ago on social media as 'Judgmental Austin' and 'features derogatory labels for our city,' City Manager Marc Ott told the mayor and City Council in a memo late Wednesday. 'Using this backdrop was completely inappropriate.'

That map pretty much nails Austin for what it is. But it does leave out the faux hipster fascists then again that’s pretty much the whole place.

Ping for my upcoming third business trip to Austin. Bone Daddy’s makes a great chicken fried steak. Fortunately, most of my workmates are gun-toting conservatives so we get along just great. It’s nice to spend time at the Shady Oaks range every time I get out there, and the food is always awesome, a la Catfish Parlor and lots of BBQ.

The Dallas map is spot on. I grew up in Oak Cliff until the stupid DISD caused the White Flight. Yes, my nice middle/upper middle class neighborhood became an “insta-slum” overnight.

Pretty accurate for Dallas, but they missed the Asians that have taken over a north-south hourglass shaped strip about 8 miles long and a mile or two wide from Richardson into Plano. Center it on the Bush/Central interchange.
