"When you're in a fight, people just don't like the fight, so they're going to respond negatively," DeLay said on CNN. "It's who wins and comes out of the fight that has long-lasting effects. And I got to tell you right now, out here in the real world, outside of New York and Washington, D.C., these people think Ted Cruz is a hero. They think that those Republicans in the House are heroes. And they think that Obama is destroying this country."
Cruz helped kick off the congressional chaos by speaking on the Senate floor for 21 hours in a symbolic filibuster of the Affordable Care Act. House Republicans then joined the fight, refusing to pass a spending bill to prevent a government shutdown unless it included a provision defunding or at least delaying parts of Obamacare.

But DeLay blamed the media for "completely trash[ing]" Cruz and congressional Republicans generally and said polls are "run to push a media narrative." He also said that polls are "not dynamic" and therefore, he argued, do not accurately reflect people's changing attitudes toward certain politicians.
"Ted Cruz is a leader," DeLay said. "People in this country for years have been begging for leadership, and Ted Cruz filled the void of leadership."

He is a hero. He’d have won the nomination in any other year. He’s still young.
I don’t think any of the current crop of candidates qualifies for the term “hero.”
He still can. This isn’t over. Not a single vote has been cast. There is a media narrative that Trump has this won. When was there a recent time that our news media didn’t push a narrative for a result.
According to our latest polls-plus forecast, Ted Cruz has a 49% chance of winning the Iowa caucuses.

Tom DeLay is not my hero
Ted is the best candidate in 30 years....his problem is he doesn’t look the part. As far as policy and pedigree we’ve never had a better candidate
But if he were the best candidate in 30 years, he wouldn't be polling at one third the numbers of the front runner.
He's young, hopefully he will accomplish a lot, but he's unlikely to win this year.
RINO diffidence isn't all about losing access to the right cocktail parties - there are genuine threats inspiring it.
Depends on the definition of REAL as is is.
It is amazing how people like to speak in terms of finality. “Real Americans” are real if they think like I do. You are not a “true conservative” unless you believe like I do. There are some people, I have noticed, who have shrugged off the limitations normal to the human mind, who have no problem in discerning, from their distance, no less, than what is in the hearts and minds of each of the millions of people who do not share their particular beliefs.
This is happening big time in this election cycle. I believe it is due to the fact that this one is for the very life of America and folks on all sides FEAR that, unless their guy gets in, it will all be over.
Trump-bots, Cruz-adors whoever...too many here have descended into a level of discourse that is weak, destructive, dismissive and profitless.
“I believe it is due to the fact that this one is for the very life of America and folks on all sides FEAR that, unless their guy gets in, it will all be over.”
True.
Oh, I agree.. on balance, Cruz is the best of the bunch. I just don’t consider any of them to be heroes.
Despite all the wild-and-woolly wackiness going on in regards to the immediate primary season, I’m still 100% thrilled to death that Ted Cruz is my senator. I can’t forget for a moment how it was when saddled with Kay Baily Hutchinson in that Senate seat. For my entire life, I don’t think I’ve had a senator represent me and my views as well as Cruz. And by standing up for those views and not allowing himself to be absorbed into that beltway ‘club,’ he’s become the recipient of a ton of hatred. From that whole loathesome Dole/McCain faction to the cretinous media elites.
Yeah, Cruz has flubbed a couple of votes, and I’m violently opposed to his earlier stated stance on H-1B visas. But, gee whiz, I’m not about to go nutso on the guy. Not to someone who has represented me so well.
amen
Thank you, Hammer!
America's "hero" may have blood on his hands someday as a result of that vote...maybe yours or a family member's.
Real conservatives know Tom DeLay is an opportunist posing as a conservative.
