Unsurprisingly, every issue that the F35 has can be traced to government’s meddling and unions. It’s a good plane. Or could be. But they messed it up like the F4.

I’m not so sure the “most missiles miss” assumption is going to hold up in the next conflict.

The F-35 is a trillion dollar boondoggle.

I suspect Pentagon egos will never let anything like this happen. Too invested to risk their careers admitting they screwed up.

Thanks for this fantastic post providing important information for this ongoing US fighter plane controversy.
It clarified why the F22 was cancelled, the comparison charts were Very informative.
The Gripen is Beautiful. When do I get to fly in it?

BTW: I nominate you as Major General senior weapons advisory expert for the Galt’s Gulch War Department.
See you when we bug out there, soon! ;n)

On the F-16.net forum, they are much more optimistic about the F-35 than this article is. There are even some former fighter pilots there.

They say: The F-35 may be somewhat less agile than the Russian Su-35, but the difference isn't decisive. Since 1970s fighter jets have been near the limit of what a pilot's body can bear and they cannot be made much more maneuverable. The F-35 actually combines some of the strengths of the F-16's (at medium speeds) and the F-18's (at low speeds) maneuverability.

The F-35 will provide its pilot with the best situational awareness in the world. Its sensors and, especially the concept of sensor fusion, are light years ahead of anything out there. Its stealth makes it very difficult to detect. In other words, the F-35 will see, but won't be seen. The enemy's pilots won't know what hit them.

Looks almost like the old F-20 with canards. That was a great little airplane.

Completely independent of the F35, the Gripen has some really serious flaws that this article ignores:

The Gripen has very little internal fuel capacity. As such it’s combat radius is extremely short. The only way to correct that is with external tanks, which on a small fighter eliminate many of its inherent advantages, particularly performance.

Buried deep within this article is this lovely turd:

“The Su-35 slaughters the F-18 Super Hornet at the rate of eight to one...”

The Navy will one day regret picking that dog over a 21st-century Super Tomcat...

Shame we can't put canards on an F-16xl and give it modern avionics.

The Gripen?

Ummm...no thanks.

Are you sure?

Yes...I'm sure.
