GREENBRIER, Ark. Recent high school graduate Anthony Bauswell wanted to join the U.S. Marines, but contends he was rejected by a recruiter because of the color of his skin.
On his left rib cage Bauswell has a Confederate flag tattoo, with a banner across it reading “Southern Pride,†and he told Arkansas Matters that the Marines recruiting center in Conway insists it disqualifies him from serving his country.

A lot of the brass in the military needs to be shown the door.

Maybe things have changed, but when my son joined the Marines in 2009, they wouldn’t accept anyone with a tattoo.
Outrageous that he would be rejected.

But if it was a rainbow flag, he would be made head of the Joint Chiefs of Satff.
Sometime in the last few years, I remember reading that they were now allowing visible tattoos...too many potential recruits were being disqualified.
A lot of the brass in the military does not show any interest in building a military that can win a war. Just sayin’.
Therein lies the problem, too many of the military brass have been shown the door, Many of the remaining are nothing more than political commissars in Obama's military for social change.
USMC regs used to be no tattoos viable above the collar or below the shirt cuff.
Obama has probably added a slew of “preferences”.

In today's Obameconomy, all branches of service enjoy the luxury to be choosy over who they'll take.
The recent high school grad said he understood the stigma with the confederate flag."I definitely don't want it to be seen as racism, which is 99% of the reason I got southern pride on it," said Bauswell.
Bauswell said he is hoping his pride for his country can be expressed in service and not just remain skin-deep.
The Marine Corps also have a tattoo poster on some websites with the slogan Think before you ink.
"As soon as I said rebel flag on my ribs, he says DQ, just automatically, DQ," said Bauswell.
Bauswell said the recruiter his tattoo disqualified him from joining the marines.
"I felt pretty low. My own government wasn't going to let me serve my country because of the ink on my skin,' said Bauswell.
Fox16 tried contacting the recruiting center Wednesday, but they were closed.
