I Concur with National Review and Principled Conservatives
Redstate ^ | 1/22/16 | Joe Cunningham

Posted on 01/22/2016 7:20:11 AM PST by TBBT

The National Review, the very legacy of William F. Buckley, has put out two hard-hitting pieces regarding the candidacy and possible nomination of Donald J. Trump as the Republican choice for president. While neither piece is going to be very persuasive to the crowd of Trump bandwagoners both among the populace and the media, they are nonetheless a line in the sand regarding unprincipled Republicanism and Conservatism. It is a line where many of us on the Right will make our stand, not because we are part of some great Establishment or RINOs, but because we believe in what we stand for.

In the movie "The Dark Knight Rises," the villain, Bane, tells Batman that he merely adopted the Darkness, while Bane himself was born in it. This holds true for Trump, who has adopted the mantle of conservatism while many of us have been fighting under it for years, if not our whole lives. We have, time and again, fought for what we believe in, pushed candidates who hold the beliefs we do, vetted for them, and even when we lost, we felt accomplished for having done the right thing.

The campaign of Donald J. Trump is a leviathan that needs to be eradicated. It is a nomination that cannot and should not happen, if we are to hold ourselves up as any sort of conservative. We have every right to be angry with Washington D.C., and every right to demand secured borders, but we are not guaranteed that from a man who negotiates his way into power in the business world. Negotiation involves compromise, and soon enough, many of his supporters may come to realize his positions on a wall, freezing Muslim immigration, and competing against China are not final positions, but starting ones.

I’m pissed. How will we ever circle back the wagons and become united against the dims? We are going to lose this election folks. Thanks to ourselves. Now would be the perfect time for Trump/Cruz ticket. I see no other way.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a picture that screamed out “bitter losers” more than this one.

Oh... wait, they’re just really concerned for our country. Deeply, deeply concerned.

Boy, do I look forward to seeing all of these people cry in their beer (or bleed in their beer, in Megyn’s case) about a month from now. Hah!

“the biggest mistake Ronaldous Magnus made was” his war on natural resource harvesters ... but to be fair, he was just continuing the assault of freedom and America begun by Nixon.

the biggest mistake Ronaldous Magnus made was letting that liberal little weasel GHWB elevate himself to royalty.

....

I think GHWB was forced on him by the GOPe. Before that they wanted Gerald Ford as co-president in the VP slot.

I think that’s why Reagan constantly sent GHWB to funerals around the world.

Maybe that “real conservative” should have spent the months between July and December doing more than staying off to the side, and allowing Trump to define the race, and dismantle the competition, with a retarded assumption that he would “implode”, and thus leaving him to just waltz into the top spot be default?

And we are supposed to anoint Cruz with a crown because? People rewarded effort, and now this band of lazy idiots are now resorting to circling the wagons, and ordering people to vote for whom they demand?

And you people seriously have deluded yourself into thinking that that is the candidate to nominate? One that needs this much hand-holding?

Get infuriated at Cruz. He’s the one that blew it.

Absolutely correct; These Trump Koolaid drinkers are quick to call others “RINOs” and disparage their conservatism - all while ignoring the inconvenient fact that their candidate is the fake conservative and RINO in the race.

I agree with you - he would be thrilled and then hold his feet to the fire.
It’s the only rational thing to do.

Why is every piece of anti-Trump ranting from Red State being immediately reposted to FR?

Infuriating that in a year when the Presidency is there for the taking by a real conservative, Trump is going to take the nomination. I think at the very least, I think Trump supporters should have an open-enough mind to read this NR collection.

Outside of being ideologically perfect for you what is his practical experience in being an executive? Has he ever had to make payroll? Hire and fire people?

Bush, Graham, McCain, Romney, Boehner, Ryan and McConnell (and all the DC politicians) have done more to tarnish the “conservative” philosophy single-handedly, than any Democrat could dream possible.

.. all the while the country has been allowed by these co-called “conservatives” to go down the tubes because of illegals being allowed to come in and get amnesty, while they let their Wall Street connections to get financially rich at our expense while the real estate market crashed.

... and now they want us to believe that all we need to do is elect a “real conservative”..??? KISS MY IRISH ARSE!!!!

And you know what? None of us knows what the future holds, no matter how many RedState articles we post every day. As the investment outfits say “Past performance is no guarantee of future results”. I’ll be the first to agree that all this is just wishful thinking on all of our parts, and none of us knows a damn bit more about how things will turn out than anyone else does.

Take it for what it is, part of the same 4-year cycle we always have, but on steriods this time, much like how some NFL seasons are yawners and some are nail-biters.

The greatest news of all is that the republic has stood even the harshest attacks ever made on it by one Barack Hussein Obama over these past 8 years. Kinda amazing, but it has....

And we should all agree that ANY of the Republican candidates (yes even Jeb and the son-of-a-mailman Kasich) would be better stewards of the Constitution and the USA than the national nightmare we’ve had to endure.
