Background checks on would-be gun buyers are expected to climb 6.5% in 2016 following a surge in sales at the end of last year, a senior Federal Bureau of Investigation official said Wednesday.

The unit charged with conducting checks started hiring contractors this month and expects to add 100 staff in 2016 to an existing workforce of around 500, with another 100 expected in 2017 if funding is approved, said Kim Del Greco, section chief of the National Instant Criminal Background Check unit.

Gun manufacturers have said in recent weeks that they remain uncertain how long the current surge in sales will last, making it tough to plan production.

POS Obama is beside himself. He wants us disarmed very badly. He’s a mean, vindictive bastard and he’s going to get nastier and more obstinate by the day.

I believe Baraq Obama will be remembered as the #1 gun salesman in US history.

And I suspect his mobsters have made huge money in the stocks.

The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Assign the new employees some legal, useful work instead ( and close atf)

I am confused. When I buy a firearm from licensed dealer I fill out form 4473. That info is then passed on to the FBI or batf to approve or not. Every time.

So how can they increase background checks?

Muslim contractors to run background checks.

I’m only half kidding.

The contractors are mostly retired investigators from military, FBI, other federal bureaucracies, State investigative agencies (SBI) and the like. They have been doing backgrounds for the government for years.

Of course they are. This is part of the uniparty crony capitalism - bringing the "efficiencies" of private enterprise to government affairs by hiring on contractors to increase the volume of paper circulating in Washington DC.

Warning, logic ahead.

If HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS of guns have been bought since the Brady background check went into effect in 1993, and a) >99% of those filling out a 4473 are not rejected, and b) prohibited persons who fill out a 4473 are never prosecuted, then WHY HAVE A BACKGROUND CHECK TO START WITH?

Answer: because it is being used to illegally create a database of gun owners, for future actions against them by the tyrannical federal government.

Because they HATE private sales between individuals, in the free states. And they hate that because it interferes with the creation of the federal and state gun-owner databases. They deny it, but it exists.

About 170 million since 1994.

“WHY HAVE A BACKGROUND CHECK TO START WITH?”

Partly it is a compromise. Second Amendment supporter tried to put as much in as possible to prevent registration, while disarmists tried to put in as much as possible to enable registration.

The result is something that moves us a little closer to registration without doing much except waste money and time.
