WASHINGTON -- One year from Wednesday, a new President of the United States will be inaugurated.

A new poll shows Republican Donald Trump leading Ted Cruz two-to-one in New Hampshire, less than three weeks before the primary.

Sarah Palin's endorsement helps Trump deflect attacks from Cruz over Trump's conservative credentials. But the candidates differ on several issues, including taxes, government surveillance and immigration. (Click Link for Balance of Article)

... Splitting hairs? It was a lie! However, the current market crash may turn it into reality when Teddy gets a margin call.
Cruz said unequivocally no more bailouts, no more GM scenarios where the government picks winners and losers, and republicans all over the country lost their businesses.
Your ability to only split Cruz hairs and support all that is donnie is troubling, if one took the time to be troubled. That is rampant here.

Sad and disappointing.

... Yes, and he was “buying favor” out of greed to expand his business which is dishonest but he said “I had to”.
No, he could have been honest and less wealthy, but no matter.
He says “Single Payer” and with this legislature he can get it. No matter. That’s fine. We “Conservatives” don’t care. We
just want to be angry.
They aren’t conservative. They certainly would understand there is nothing about conservative about him if they paid attention to what he says and his beat to death all those who don’t kiss his butt - a life long trait. They do not care about facts, they have a tingle in their legs.

Deal breaker: You fund half your Senate campaign with Goldman Sachs money, but make sure that's not known till you win.

Please try to not be so ignorant. Cruz didn't fund his campaign with "Goldman-Sachs" money. He took out a personal loan, secured by assets he already owned, and donated the proceeds to his campaign, and he paid back the loan with his own money. It is no different than if he took out a 2nd mortgage on his house. The campaign didn't get a loan, and the campaign didn't repay any portion of the loan.

And the fact that he gave that money to his campaign and that it was from a loan was public record at the time. There was no "non-diclosure". The money that was given to the campaign was disclosed to the Senate and to the FEC. The only difference was that they didn't list it as a "loan" on the FEC document while they did in the Senate filing (different forms with different questions). There was actually a reason it was not listed as a loan on the FEC form, and it was not to deceive anyone. Ted took out a personal loan against his own assets and then donated the money to his campaign. Since the campaign did not have to pay the money back, it was not a loan to the campaign, so they didn't list it at such, they just listed the source as personal funds. But apparently the FEC requires you to report if the source of personal funds are from a loan. The point is that there was never any attempt to hide the source of the funds. This was a paperwork error. And Ted did not get some special deal from G-S that gives them some hold over him - this was a secured loan taken out against assets he already owned. The campaign did not repay any of the loan, so none of Ted's donors paid any portion of the loan.

Cruz: life- long pro-life advocate. Worked to defund Planned Parenthood.
Trump: converted on abortion issues over time. Said PP provided great services to women.

Cruz: fought Gang of 8 using every legislative trick in the book. Fought DREAM amnesty too. Advocated for a wall in 2012. Advocated for increased H1B visas in 2013 but now wants them reduced.
Trump: said self deportation was a maniacal idea in 2012. Has hired foreign workers, including H1B workers over the years. Advocated for a wall in 2015. Wants tariffs on Mexico to pay for wall.

Cruz: pro-trade and pro-previous versions of TPA. Against current TPA version due to immigration language. Against TPP.
Trump: wants higher tariffs. Promised to make great deals to enact favorable trade policies. Unclear how he plans to do this without TPA.

Cruz: remove US from Iran deal immediately.
Trump: conflicting statements on when/whether to pull US from deal

Cruz: flat tax and abolish the IRS
Trump: keep IRS and reduce tax code to 4 brackets with fewer off-shore loopholes

Cruz: appoint strict constructionist judges
Trump: ? (I honestly couldn’t find a link to his judicial preferences beyond that off-handed comment about his sister)

Cruz: marriage is a state issue
Trump: gay marriage is “the law of the land”

If Trump gains the WH, it would be an enormous victory. The Dems have won the popular vote in five out of the last six elections with Obama recording the two highest vote totals in American history--by far. The Dems fueled by immigration and minority birthrates are poised to become the permanent majority party.

Cruz cannot win the General Election given our current demographics. We have entered the era of tribal politics. Whether rightly or wrongly, the MSM and the Dems have successfully painted him as a right wing extremist.

"In time of war, we have curbed the Bill of Rights many times including Lincoln suspending the writ of habeas corpus."

The Constitution allows for the suspension of habeas corpus in times of rebellion.

show me the loan document so I can tell for sure.

It has already been widely reported that this was a margin loan, which was secured by assets Ted already owned - it was not an unsecured signature loan. But I'll bet you already knew that, and just want to keep making false claims just to keep the issue alive.

I left off my list:

Cruz: will sign Obamacare repeal. Filibustered funding for Obamacare
Trump: has repeatedly endorsed single-payer healthcare

Cruz: against both ethanol and oil subsidies. Wants free market with minimal government intervention
Trump: supports increasing ethanol mandate and supports government intervention in markets

Cruz: anti-TARP
Trump: pro TARP

Cruz: helped House members increase influence of Freedom Caucus. Supported TEA Party candidates
Trump: not a significant source of conservative funding.

Objectively speaking, I think an intelligent conservative should have some level of consternation about Trump winning the White House. As you point out, there seems to be some fluidity to his principles and positions. In my opinion, any candidate for POTUS should fall under harsh scrutiny by any intelligent conservative. Trump or Cruz should not be immune. It seems many don’t care how conservative a candidate is or even the candidates track record. I guess we’re in a new era of politics and it doesn’t bode well for our Republic in the long run. Of course, just my opinion.

re>You did not answer the question, but I understand why.

I did not. I will now. One is a politician the other is a business man. I have had it with politicians. Should Trump fail I will vote for Cruz.

{”We’re living in very strange times.”}

People are so angry they have set aside principles and good judgement.
You start to see how despots come to power. Would Trump be a good president?
I am frightened of his SCOTUS appointments. They will be just like Hillary’s I fear.
Looks like we’re going to have another egomaniac in the WH.
Obama was not enough apparently.

Seems like too many deals have been cut with Democrats in recent years and that’s what Conservatives here at FR have
been whining about for years.

Re: Lincoln and habeas corpus. Are we having a civil war. I wasn’t aware of that.

Here is the transcription:

Trump: I have always come down on the side of security. To me, it’s the most important

Garrett: even if it means encroaching on the Bill of Rights?

Trump: I hate it. I hate the concept of it, but we’re dealing with some very, very bad dudes.

I find this unsettling. Unless he has walked this back, he is on record as saying as much as he hates it, our Constitution, the very document he would swear to “preserve, protect and defend” will always take a second place to security.

The devil is in the details. This is one detail I could never justify.

We hold grudges in my family. My husband never forgave Lincoln for suspending Habeas Corpus.
