Welcome home my brother. God bless you always.
This story interests me. I went to school at Ft. Eustis VA in 1966 to become a Mohawk mechanic. There was, as I recall, a guy named Graffe in my class and I think his first name was Paul. Makes me wonder if there’s any chance he decided later to go to flight school to become an OV-1 pilot. Probably not but sort of a coincidence just the same.
BTW, those were great planes. Kind of a little hotrod.

Sorry for the double post. I must have a fat thumb.
Welcome Home
Privates aren’t pilots in the army. He may have been an observer. To be a pilot, the minimum rank is WO.
It appears your friend was the pilot of the Mohawk that PFC Cunningham was a crewman on.

Perhaps I have jumped the shark... I didn’t see the pilot’s name in the posted text in my first read.
Well, he was just one classmate out of many but he did live in the same barracks as I did, if it was him. I sincerely hope it was not. I already have some friends on that wall and they are quite enough. Thank you for your response.
