Author and National Review embarrasses itself as example:

"And what are Republicans doing? Sneering at “New York values,” when they should be seeking to satisfy the best of those values, such as the entrepreneurial spirit and the hunger for advancement — which are, after all, the best of American values, too."

America, thank God, does not embrace NY Values.

Got news for you: These are the values that Ted is referring to, spoken by the NY Governor:

'He recently told conservative Republicans – specifically anyone who is pro-traditional marriage, pro-life or pro-guns – they "have no place in the state of New York"."

I’m so glad you let us know this was an anti-Cruz article. I would never have figured it out on my own.

The writer is a moron. And by the way, he says Trump is worse.

So if it is anti-Cruz, it is double-plus anti-Trump.

Anyway, the writer is a moron so anything he says about either candidate is 100% worthless.

How smart is it to go out and piss off the nation’s largest city and hometown of your biggest opponent?

But then, we know Cruz isn’t very experienced.

silly values like running into a crumbling tower 110 stories tall?

blood donations through the roof.

hundreds and hundreds of stories of people helping each other.

Cruz lost my vote. It’s Trump now.

A Republican presidential candidate need not trouble himself too much about New York's votes in the Electoral College,

On the contrary, Trump won NY's electoral votes two nights ago.

Occurs to me that Cruz used a trump tactic. Did he get attention? Lolol. Did everyone know what he meant? Of course. Loved his apology. Perfect.
Taping Cris Wallace show - first time since Rush was on. Probably last.
How many laughed when DT said he was probably responsible for hostage release? HAHAHAHAH

When watching a sports match, it’s easy to see whose side each person is on by watching reactions to a close call. Each will call it for their favorite team. The same is true in politics Each pundit calls it for their own team. In this country of over 300 million people, there is a small minority totally engulfed by the NY-DC political-media-celebrity cocoon. They always call every close match for their own team. The rest of us in the heartland call it differently.

This writer is so idiotic. I understand his overarching point here, Republicans shouldn’t chastise “New York”, a.k.a. urbanites/big city/etc, but there are so many contrary points to be made here.

1) Let’s start with the fact that no Republican is going to win New York state. Despite Williamson’s dreams of presumably the biggest RINO of all time (Jeb Bush?) running on the GOP ticket, as long as there’s a Democrat running, the state of New York will select that person regardless. No amount of pandering to New York OR stereotyping them will change that.

2) Let’s keep the context in mind here. We’re less than 3 weeks from the Republican Iowa Caucuses. Less than 2 months from the South Carolina primaries. Like it or not (or perhaps this writer is ignorant of this) the vast majority of people that vote in these two contests do not look upon New York City as a place to aspire to. Contrarily, they know exactly what one means when one says “New York Values”. Trust me, John Smith from Poppycock, IA isn’t offended by the term. He doesn’t sit there and try to wrap his head around all the little exceptions to the phrase and wonder why someone would forget about poor Milton Friedman.

3) It’s funny how in the same article the author calls the suburbs of Houston, to paraphrase, “may as well be anywhere” in an article where he wants us to not stereotype or neglect the finer points of New York City. I grew up in the suburbs of Houston. No, I don’t ride a horse or wear a cowboy hat, but it’s not the same as growing up in the suburbs of anywhere, and this little afterthought is a big deal since it flies in the face of his main point.

4) New York earned their reputation. Further, the phrase comports to the eye of the beholder. Trump was proud of New York Values in 1999. In fact, many people are proud of New York’s socially-liberal, economically-conservative bent. New York Values isn’t necessarily a bad thing to a good portion of people.

5) Like it or not, stereotypes exist of every city. This should be a no-brainer, but apparently not when reading this article and seeing so much misplaced frustration. New York has a stereotype, LA, Miami, Dallas, Seattle, Chicago... etc. Hell, the political media plays on those stereotypes every day when they say how one candidate will “play well” in Iowa while another will do better in New Hampshire. That’s because the states are very different and their, wait for it, values are very different. If someone were to say New Hampshire values, I think most of us would think, “libertarian-leaning, small government, open-minded”, while if someone were to say Iowa values, “Christian, farmer-oriented, socially-conservative”. These aren’t inherently good or bad things. They just are. New York just is.

I could keep going, but this is enough. I’m very disappointed in this article though. I can’t believe how short-sighted it is.

Anybody who starts referring to New York Firefighters and Policemen who bravely tried to rescue victims in 911 or conservative icon William F. Buckley to refute Cruz is deliberately ignoring what he is REALLY saying and attacking a Straw Man.

He was NOT talking about the above folks when he refers to “New York Values” and he clearly said so.

He was talking about the New York State tendency to vote in Pro-abortion, Pro-gay marriage, pro- big labor union, anti-gun rights politicians.

So from one New Yorker to another, if you vote for politicians who have the above values, OWN UP ! He’s referring to YOU.

If not, then he’s not talking about you at all.

It should be okay to sneer at NY. And the People’s Democratic Republics of California and Massachusetts.
It isn’t like we are ever going to get electoral votes from them.

My idea of New York values: a big mouth, an entitled sense that New York is the best place in the world, celebrity-worship, attachment to nauseating Broadway musicals, and pro-Democrat politics.

This comment is going to haunt Cruz for the rest of his career.

We need a uniter not a divider, and Cruz played ID politics. Those are politics of division which are liberal politics.
