The 1 quote Ted Cruz thinks could cost Donald Trump Iowa
The Washington Post ^ | 1/16/16 | Aaron Blake

In case you thought Ted Cruz's "New York values" line on Donald Trump was just a one-off attack, witness this new video from the Cruz campaign.

The video from a 1999 Donald Trump appearance on "Meet the Press" is not a TV ad, but it has all the makings of one. And it erases any doubt about whether "New York values" was intended to be something Cruz would continue to hammer home as voters prepare to cast ballots.

In the video, Trump very much cops to his New York values, citing where he comes from for his positions on no fewer than three issues: gay marriage, support for gays in the military, and so-called "partial-birth" abortion. (He supported the latter two and was undecided on the first.) Each time one of the issues is brought up, Trump volunteers his home town as part of his political identity.

And indeed, there's one money quote from Trump that seems tailor-made for an attack ad in the state that just happens to vote first.

"I've lived in New York City and Manhattan all my life," Trump said. "So, you know, my views are a little different than if I lived in Iowa -- perhaps."

It looks like Fox has chosen Trump over Cruz.

It looks like the people have chosen Trump over Cruz. He’s up 6 points in the new Reuters debate over Cruz.

If this will help, this was much more recent:

@realDonaldTrump has given $84K to @NYGovCuomo, who says conservatives have no place in NY because they don’t share #NewYorkValues

And indeed, there’s one money quote from Trump that seems tailor-made for an attack ad in the state that just happens to vote first.

“I’ve lived in New York City and Manhattan all my life,” Trump said. “So, you know, my views are a little different than if I lived in Iowa — perhaps.”

That pretty much says it all when it comes to the Cruz team’s attack. And you can bet it had this video in hand long before Cruz first uttered the phrase “New York values.
Yep, can’t wait to see all the ads. Lololol.....

It’d be interesting to try to find a single person in Iowa who doesn’t know that Trump is a New Yorker who’s not exactly known for his social conservatism.

The problem is Cruz can’t deliver his fairy tale social conservative agenda. As we saw in the PP defund battle, Congress is rotten to the core. One POTUS won’t change that. We are in a generational battle. It took the Dems nearly 20 years from the TV lesbian kiss to gay marriage “victory”. Deciding your vote for POTUS based on social issues is a fools errand.

I feel sorry for Cruz’s supporters begin duped into supporting him based on his social conservative agenda. It will never happen regardless of who wins the election.

but the lack of social conservatism hasn’t been pointed out much by anyone this cycle

Trump is not a social conservative? Goodness, really? Who knew?

Turn up the volume some more. Repeat yourself some more. Maybe it will finally sink it.

What also might sink in is that everyone already gets it and they just don't give a gosh darn, because social conservatism isn't the biggest problem on the nation's plate right now.

And, just to get something clear here, the social conservative agenda might have a hard time getting a majority on Free Republic which is made up of all kinds of other conservatives - constitutional conservatives, fiscal conservatives, even crypto-libertarians and even real live libertarians, and don't have a great deal of truck with the "social conservative" agenda.

When Trump was a DemonRAT, he played the liberal card big. Now that he got that poison out of his system, he has become mentally sane. That sanity is what we need for the leadership that will benefit America.

Donald could have disavowed his New York values, but he wanted the title.

Works for me.

Well at least he’s honest about it. But then he wasn’t running for President.

There are a lot of people who want to get the government under control in all sorts of ways. But, as I just posted, I just don't think the social conservative agenda is going to get any real traction. Honestly, on a bad day, it causes knock down drag out food fights here on FR.

Not they haven't. The NBC poll head to head that Cruz sited has Cruz beating Trump if it was just the two of them running. That's what sent the crazy Trump tweet crazy this morning in his pajamas. Chortle!

-- They have TV in Iowa. --

Green Acres is in it's 50th season, and the farm report runs 24 hours now, instead of just half an hour in the morning.

LMAO. They go to 1999. Hell they could find Cruz’s Harvard classmates if Trump wanted to.

I agree with this... I'm a social conservative as well but that agenda is not going to win in November. It is changing slowly but it will take a long time.

Ted Cruz who is phony OWNED by New York City, a sleazy NYC Wall Street Billionaire that owes the USA Treasury 6 billion in back taxes , Goldman Sachs the most devious Bank in the world , and Citibank which we bailed out in 2008 !

And what is Teddy giving the Wall Street Tax cheat Mercer getting in return for this 300,000,000 Dark money PAC created for Teddy Cruz ?.. Ted and Heidi think they are the DC stealth insiders who even though wholly owned by Mercer, Goldman , Citibank and god knows who else can peddle this DC outsider card that is the oldest tired pr game in the political hack world. The Ted and Heidi charade is over ! Heidi Cruz help created that Constitutional thrashing TPP for her boss
Goldman Sachs while Teddy peddles he is so worried about the evil Banks and gets unsecured campaign loans from them. You can make up such hypocrisy . Sadly, these two are wholly owned by NYC billionaires and Banks apparently think there supporters will believe any lie they spit out ! And they are right !!

Master of the Obvious statement. Do you think Iowans would disagree with him? I doubt it.

All a person has to do to understand Trump’s values is look at his children. They are the product of who he is. And in spite of his intense focus on his businesses, he still made the time to raise them properly.

New York is running for president. Donald J Trump is running for president.
Trump isn’t running for National Pastor. Is that what Iowa is seeking to elect?
