Bernie Sanders would likely raise taxes to pay for universal health care

Bernie Sanders likely wants to raise everyone's taxes to pay for universal health care, but promises it will be worth it.

The Democratic presidential contender has long promoted a single payer health care system, which would eliminate the private insurance market in favor of a government-run program. He calls it 'Medicare for All. Sanders' plan for health insurance is now in the spotlight, with rival Hillary Clinton demanding that he reveal how he'd pay for it. Her campaign contends it would require raising taxes on the middle class by 9%.

Sanders has waffled on whether he'd unveil details before the Iowa caucuses next month, but said the plan would be similar to legislation he introduced in Congress in 2013. Under that proposal, the middle class would ultimately save money, he says

Well, isn’t this special snowflake a real clever guy.

Where’s the middle class? It has largely disappeared, from what I can tell.

Will his wife do another real estate deal to pay for the administration of it, or do we just hand people boxes of rubber gloves and blue pills?

Bernie wants us to be like Sweden.

He plans on enacting the Swedish Tax Act.

Personal income tax rates 30%-60%.
Social security/Medicare taxes 30%.
And God forbid if you have any money left,
there is a 25% VAT on purchases.

If you do a little math you can figure out that it would require a 20% payroll tax to extend Medicare to every American. And that would be on top of all the other taxes you pay.

I don’t think Trump is promoting a single payer plan anymore. More like Obamacare was supposed to be
It’s going to be a private plan and people are going to be able to go out and negotiate great plans with lots of different competition with lots of competitors with great companies and they can have their doctors, they can have plans, they can have everything....

At which point I’ll stop working like a dog and join the Handout Brigade.

If government “healthcare” is going to put me in an early grave either due to incompetence or on purpose, I may as well make my last years lazy ones.

Look, if (when) the US adopts single-payer healthcare, income taxes are going to rise to European rates. Top marginal rates of 80-90%. Average % paid 35%-40%.

It’s inevitable. That’s what single payer MEANS. He who says “A” says “B”.

Get used to it.

Is that what it is now? Last I heard he was replacing Obamacare with something “terrific” and everybody was going to be taken care of and not to worry, it would be terrific.

If you think health care is expensive now, just wait until it is free.

I believe one only has to look at his home state of Vermont. They voted in some type of single-payer system in 2012 but had to scrap it as the cost was prohibitive.....taxes would have been through the roof.

Considering healthcare premiums are free or almost free with massive subsided coverage for everyone except company based plans or individual plans...

We are almost there...

It's going to be terrific! It's going to be great! A wonderful, wonderful plan. It's going to be a great plan. Best plan ever! Why? Because of good management and good negotiating. I've been negotiating my whole life! And the viruses and bacteria are going to pay for it!

[Oh, yeah, and he's also the most experienced candidate when it comes to bankruptcy.]

Wait... what? Are you telling me a cranky old dyed in the wool socialist/Marxist bastard is going to rise my taxes to pay for a free health care Utopia? No way. Uncle Bernie said it would be free! You're all lying. Next you'll be telling it's going to be a single payer system
