This is what Ted Cruz, who wasn't just born out of town but out of the country, said about Donald Trump the other day:
"Well, look, he may shift in his new rallies to play 'New York, New York' because Donald comes from New York and he embodies New York values.'"
In that moment, of course, up in lights as bright as the ones in Times Square and as loud as traffic in the city, Cruz shows you how far out of his depth he is running for President of the United States.
Cruz really must think he can get the nomination of his party by simply working the slower-thinking precincts, sharing a worldview you could fit inside a shot glass. But people ought to remember what he said about New York the next time he comes here with his hand out, another politician joining the ranks of the city's panhandlers.
If you are dumb enough to act as if New York values are some sort of handicap in this presidential season, then you are as dumb and tone deaf as Jesse Jackson was calling the city "Hymietown" once, as dumb as Gerald Ford was when he gave this paper the most famous front page in its history, the day he effectively told New York to drop dead.
The next time Cruz shows up here and treats the city like an ATM machine, he should make a side trip to the Bronx and explain himself there on New York values; or to the Lower East Side, or Williamsburg, Brooklyn, or Jamaica, Queens, or 125th St. He should go talk to people in the Rockaways or Staten Island, the tough clubfighters of Hurricane Sandy, about New York values.

Why don’t you move out of state - perhaps that would make it less of a...oh, never mind.
But that doesn't mean SF and LA don't deserve all of the insults folks here typical sling at them.
Dunno if NY is that way as well. I've never been upstate.
After you, my dear.
Apples and Oranges.
1. Trump isn’t asking them for money, he’s asking them for their vote. Calling them stupid was... just... Stupid!
2. Cruz is bashing NEW YORK VALUES, while taking big checks from two gay men from the City... Two gay men? That’s the very embodiment of New York Values that Cruz is hinting at.
Get the difference?
I (as would most conservatives) understood exactly what he meant...you can put your own spin on “values”, but when it comes up in the future, I’m sure you’ll hear more details...
Nope, Trump called Iiwans stupid.
That doesn’t bother you when he wants their vote or support?
Nice post. Yes, we do live in the greatest place in the world!
I’m staying.
Here , let me help you guys out as a Trump guy...
“Trump displays the worse of the politics of New York City”
See that? That is a statement that properly isolates your desired meaning from being misconstrued.
“Trump displays New York values”
DOES NOT.
What we say on FR is our language and way of communicating. Out on the stump in a presidential election is not the place to be vague like that in context of the largest city in the nation that has two giant holes where a lot of good people lost people they cared about, and where many consider the aftermath their finest hour as a city.
And in the age of ISIS, 9-11 is more prominent than ever.
Awww.
So why tell others to leave then?
You support what the liberals are doing?
Cruz fundraises in New York City on a constant basis. This is him being phoney again.
I suggested you leave because you’re so miserable in New York State. I was trying to HELP.
I kinda figured that. But I was trying to make him think.
Anyway, it's like saying "Christians are hypocrites!" because we sin. < /eye roll>
This smacks of liberal "logic," if you get my drift.
Yes. We conservatives in NY, who are in a minority here, know exactly what Cruz is talking about.
Yet we have out-of-staters on this thread, defending the majority values in NY of abortion, gun control, big government and illegal immigration.
Vote democrat then, since you like the current events so much.
See, works both ways.
The difference is that we aren’t running for president.
Why is he phoney? Please explain.
I had no idea he fundraised here. I’ll bet the Young Republicans of NYC have met with him (my old group). I think you have to be careful who you bash when you fundraise, lol.
Yeah, well, guess what. The sum of a people is reflected by the people that they choose or allow to rule over them. Looking at it that way, I’ll take Texas over New York — it’s not even close.
