US Navy sailors released unharmed by Iran in less than a day

Less than a day after 10 U.S. Navy sailors were detained in Iran when their boats drifted into Iranian waters, they and their vessels were back safely Wednesday with the American fleet.

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry tapped the personal relationship he has formed with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif in the three years of negotiations over Iran's nuclear program, speaking with him at least five times by telephone. Kerry credited the quick resolution to the "critical role diplomacy plays in keeping our country secure and strong."

Man! What a load of chit!

'Oh lookie!!! The Iranians only kept our guys hostage for a day.'

Somethings really fishy with this. From the video I've seen the U.S. boats are pretty well armed. The Iranian boats that I saw in the video looked like the kind of boats you see guys using to fish for Tarpon in Key West. How the he11 do they just capture a couple of US Naval vessel in fishing boats?

Doesn't look like a whole lot of "international cooperation" to me.

What is majorly fishy is that we have not been told why they were captured. What happened that caused their capture.

We also do not know if they returned the boats.

Something majorly fishy here.

Like our drone that suddenly landed safe in Iran in December 2011, I think this op went exactly as planned by our country’s Number 1 Enemy.

Boats and crew returned. That john f’n kohn-heinz-kerry (VN war hero) is amazing isn’t he. Supposedly strayed a mile into Iranian waters. Did one boat break down? Did the second boat have any line on board to tow the other one? All pretty weird.

Like they were going to hold them hostage for 444 days and risk another Reaganesque dope-smack.

It would be interesting to know their standing orders. It would be interesting to know their standing orders and what they were instructed to do in situations like this. My guess is that it all leads back to Obama.

“”John Kerry tapped the personal relationship he has formed with Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif in the three years of negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program, speaking with him at least five times by telephone””

Now that’s what I call a great PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP - it only took FIVE TELEPHONE CALLS. Next time I call a friend for a favor and it takes 4 more calls for them to comply, that friendship is over! Don’t they (Kerry and obozo) ever get tired of playing us for suckers?

This is, indeed, fishy. The last two US Navy vessels to surrender were the USS Pueblo in 1968 and the USS Wake in 1941. The Pueblo was virtually unarmed. The Wake was moored at a dock in Japanese-controlled Shanghai and surrounded by Japanese soldiers just after Pearl Harbor was bombed, so it had no chance to escape, although its crew did try to scuttle it before being forced to surrender. Yet unlike these vessels, the boats captured by the Iranians were apparently well-armed.

Word going the Spec Ops community is that there were two teams of special op folks on each boat( some say they were Saudi others say SEALS)which were evaced off the boats prior to the Iranians showing up.
They say one photo if the passenger section below decks shows many rucks, not something boat crews bring along

No word of what prompted this....

AP seems anxious to add this humiliation to Obama's list of accomplishments.

Released in LESS than a day... wow!

"drifted into Iranian waters"

Considering that GPS was developed for the military, how would they go anywhere by accident?

"Released in LESS than a day...wow!"

Compare this to the Hainan Island incident where China held Americans for an extended period and when they did release them they made Bush pay room and board, and a hefty fee for shipping the aircraft back to the US.

In that case, the US aircraft was in China's EEZ, which is legal under LOST.

In this case with Iran, the boat was in Iran's territorial waters, which is a violation of LOST.

The irony of it is that the US and Iran are 2 of only a handful of nations that haven't ratified LOST. Those that oppose the US ratifying LOST always say that we have the world's most powerful navy so we can use gunboat diplomacy in situations like this.

This is how adversaries are treated. Didn’t we just sign a big agreement with Iran? The one that we absolutely had to have? It was so important that Congress wasn’t even allowed to vote on it?

So why are they still treating us like adversaries? (rhetorical)
