Why I Will Never Vote for Donald Trump
New York Times ^ | January 14, 2016 | Peter Wehner

Posted on 01/14/2016 5:40:21 AM PST by reaganaut1

...

Mr. Trump has no desire to acquaint himself with most issues, let alone master them. He has admitted that he doesn't prepare for debates or study briefing books; he believes such things get in the way of a good performance. No major presidential candidate has ever been quite as disdainful of knowledge, as indifferent to facts, as untroubled by his benightedness.

It is little surprise, then, that many of Mr. Trump's most celebrated pronouncements and promises - to quickly and "humanely" expel 11 million illegal immigrants, to force Mexico to pay for the wall he will build on our southern border, to defeat the Islamic State "very quickly" while as a bonus taking its oil, to bar Muslims from immigrating to the United States - are nativistic pipe dreams and public relations stunts.

Even more disqualifying is Mr. Trump's temperament. He is erratic, inconsistent and unprincipled. He possesses a streak of crudity and cruelty that manifested itself in how he physically mocked a Times journalist with a disability, ridiculed Senator John McCain for being a P.O.W., made a reference to "blood" intended to degrade a female journalist and compared one of his opponents to a child molester.

Mr. Trump's legendary narcissism would be comical were it not dangerous in someone seeking the nation's highest office - as he demonstrated when he showered praise on the brutal, anti-American president of Russia, Vladimir V. Putin, responding to Mr. Putin’s expression of admiration for Mr. Trump.

...

Mr. Trump's virulent combination of ignorance, emotional instability, demagogy, solipsism and vindictiveness would do more than result in a failed presidency; it could very well lead to national catastrophe. The prospect of Donald Trump as commander in chief should send a chill down the spine of every American.

“Peter Wehner is one of Bush’s stooges who gets in the news by going after anyone the Bush family or other GOP Establishment types don’t like. Last time I remember seeing his name is when he went after Mark Levin. He’s a Bush/Compassionate Conservative Establishment type.”

Exactly right; establishment Republican to the core.

I think that Trump, with all his faults, is 100X better than Rotten or Sanders.

A while back, my husband told me he would quit politics altogether before he would vote for a lying piece of crap like Donald Trump.

And I’m right there with him, 100%. It’s never going to happen.

The die-hard establishment types have done themselves in. They actually thought they could ignore and write off the Tea Party - America Patriots and the not so silent majority. They even proclaimed they didn't need those kooks any longer. What is taking place now is that the dog is actually back to waging its tail again, not the other way around. They are getting a hard lesson in American civics and the determined will of the American people. As Jackie Gleason would say, “How Sweet it is.”

O, my gosh! Night after night I've been unable to sleep wondering, "Is there any way Peter Wehner will vote for Donald Trump?"

Thank you for putting my mind to rest on that question, Peter. Now I can finally get a good night's slzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.......

Rubio is less conservative then Cruz, but I think he is more electable

Hillary will squash Rubio like a bug. I read all the Trump (and Cruz) bashing threads to see if there are strong arguments against either that we need to be aware of before the general. In this case you and your fellow bashers have nothing. You have less than nothing. You are a complete waste of my time.

Are you a freshman? Never heard such sophomoric analysis from an adult. What a load of feathers.

Methinks this is your very first rodeo, or you would surely know a REVOLUTION when you see one, and that while in one, UNFAVORABLES are a plus. We have enemies, you know.

If everyone likes you, you “ain’t” cutting it. Grow up, or go advise your parakeet.

TRUMP, 2016

He is erratic, inconsistent and unprincipled.

Those are qualities that are only tolerable in a 'RAT politician.

Most conservatives won’t vote for Trump or the establishment’s Rubio.

‘Trump ... sucks up to foreign dictators who praise him. He’s a jerk.’

I’m not sure you are worth the time.

Look — it’s smart diplomacy to get along with guys like Putin, who can help us in the War on Terror among other things.

Trump was not exactly ‘gushy’ about it either.

And I bet those two will have run-ins anyway. So it makes sense to personalize your diplomacy with him in advance.

Trump has the best attacks on the MSM and anyone else that is in his way by far. If he is doing that well and lazy, then wait until he decides to get off the sofa. The fact is that Trump is flattening the media clearing the way for an alternative candidate like himself or Cruz.

He certainly sounds like a peter weiner. All those negative adjectives he has listed make him sound like an unhappy weiner. Poor baby!

Trump is the laziest candidate I have ever seen.

There are a lot of big assumptions there. Personally, I am tired of expert reports, This is a time for conmmon sense, there is a time for details later.

Right now we ARE WAY PAST LIBERAL / CONSERVATIVES issues. We are fighting for the future of our nation. We are bankrupt and almost beyond repair.

During the Financial crises of the 80s, old tough men were brought to the banks that were in trouble because they could make tough decisions and they didn’t live in the community of the banks.

We need someone that can make decisions and implement them.

We will have time for conservative issues later.

The morons who either didn’t vote for Romney or voted for Gary Johnson are the same dopes complaining about everything wrong in our country today. And yet they haven’t learned their lesson.

Unfortunately, there will be no more elections in the future to fix it. They will just be farcical, fraud-laden stage shows where the Democrats will hold power for another generation.
