Ted Cruz Didn’t Disclose Loan From Goldman Sachs for His First Senate Campaign
New York Times ^ | January 13, 2016 | Mike McIntire

Posted on 01/13/2016 3:50:20 PM PST by Alter Kaker

As Ted Cruz tells it, the story of how he financed his upstart campaign for the United States Senate four years ago is an endearing example of loyalty and shared sacrifice between a married couple.

"Sweetheart, I’d like us to liquidate our entire net worth, liquid net worth, and put it into the campaign," he says he told his wife, Heidi, who readily agreed.

But the couple’s decision to pump more than $1 million into Mr. Cruz’s successful Tea Party-darling Senate bid in Texas was made easier by a large loan from Goldman Sachs, where Mrs. Cruz works. That loan was not disclosed in campaign finance reports.

She went to harvard business school also known as HBS. The old saying is take away the H, and it’s just a lot of BS.

“What has Trump done for limited-government causes in his years? “

He has donated more to Cruz than you have.

Donated... not a loan.

These "loans" will come due and some banks may be willing to accept payment in the form of a future taxpayer bailout. This stinks!

Then we should REALLY be afraid of electing Trump. He has taken out BILLIONS of dollars of loans over the years - I'm sure his companies STILL owe these Wall Street banks millions of dollars! Plus the fact that any bailout would benefit Trump personally by getting him off the hook for the loans...

Yeah... read the actual essay... it does not once say "pass it to see what is in it." I defy you to argue with a single point made in the essay. It argues that the President needs to consult with Congress to make these agreements

"Congress can't just take the administration's word that it will drive a hard bargain. We have to hold it accountable, and that is what trade-promotion authority will help do.

Under TPA, Congress lays out three basic requirements for the administration. First, it must pursue nearly 150 specific negotiating objectives, like beefing up protections for U.S. intellectual property or eliminating kickbacks for government-owned firms. Second, the administration must consult regularly with Congress and meet high transparency standards.

And third, before anything becomes law, Congress gets the final say. The Constitution vests all legislative power in Congress. So TPA makes it clear that Congress - and only Congress - can change U.S. law. If the administration meets all the requirements, Congress will give the agreement an up-or-down vote. But if the administration fails, Congress can hit the brakes, cancel the vote and stop the agreement."

Go on, tell me where you disagree, Lodi. I dare you.

“Senate bid in Texas was made easier by a large loan from Goldman Sachs, where Mrs. Cruz works.”

You can look at it this way, Sach’s is pulling a Trump.
Maybe they really don’t want to but they feel it may be in
their bets interest to do so. Cruz just might win.

It evidently is something to disclose, since his spokesperson said they will be making corrections.

Sometimes just getting a loan at a low interest rate that others can’t get is considered a contribution. Not sure how it works, but there are other cases.

I’m trying to do some research on this, so these cases may or may not be pertinent.

Chaka Fattah Indicted For Allegedly Taking $1 Million Loan From Penn State Trustee Al Lord
http://onwardstate.com/2015/08/04/chaka-fattah-indicted-for-allegedly-taking-1-million-loan-from-penn-state-trustee-al-lord/

In 2007, Fattah got a $1 million dollar boost to his mayoral campaigning budget from an undercover “Person D,” later (allegedly) identified as former Sallie Mae CEO and Penn State alumnus and trustee Al Lord. Struggling in his campaign, Fattah received the illegal $1 million via Thomas Linfield, a politician who received the money via a personal loan from Lord.

Countrywide financial political loan scandal

Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee Kent Conrad (D-ND)

The U.S. financial political loan scandal in 2008-2009 involved politicians who allegedly received favorable mortgage rates.

In June 2008 Conde Nast Portfolio reported that numerous Washington, DC politicians over recent years had received mortgage financing at noncompetitive rates at Countrywide Financial because the corporation placed the officeholders in a program called “FOA’s”—”Friends of Angelo”, Countrywide’s Chief Executive Angelo Mozilo. The politicians extended such favorable financing included the chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, Christopher Dodd (D-CT), and the chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, Kent Conrad (D-ND). The article also noted Countrywide’s political action committee had made large donations to Dodd’s campaign.[1] The largest recipient of campaign contributions from Countrywide, though, was Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA), House Financial Services Committee), who has received $37,500 since 1989. [2] Dodd has advocated that the federal government, through the Federal Housing Administration, insure up to $300 billion in refinanced mortgages for distressed homeowners.[3]

Good job on Obamacare/s, and his own institution despises him.

You reject him because his efforts at repeal haven't succeeded yet, even though he is the only one trying? And you want someone that the establishment in Congress approves of? Nice admission, moron.

This WSJ piece is the Chamber of Commerce/GOPe talking points on TPA. And you’re eating it up. I expect better of a FReeper. Bottom line is Ted Cruz was/is enabling Barack Obama by greasing the Congressional wheels to pass his secret trade deals and you’re ok with that.

The debate is going to be explosive tomorrow night. There has not been a debate in my life that I am looking more forward too. Cruz better be read for debating. So far he debating skills have been weak. Tomorrow he better bring his “A” game because he’s getting it from at least Trump and Rubio. This should be fun.
