The Republican Party tapped South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley to deliver its response to President Barack Obama's State of the Union address Tuesday night, but her most memorable jabs landed squarely on the GOP's own Donald Trump.
Haley took clear aim at the GOP front-runner, discussing her family's immigrant experience while warning against rhetoric that would threaten "the dream that is America."
"During anxious times, it can be tempting to follow the siren call of the angriest voices," Haley said from the governor's residence in Columbia. "We must resist that temptation. No one who is willing to work hard, abide by our laws, and love our traditions should ever feel unwelcome in this country."

A Democrat who believes guns cause mass murder is responded to by a Republican who believes flags cause mass murder.
WHAT A FARCE!!!!!!!!!
Haley looked like an outsider like so many of them did in 2010 and 2012 and 2014 but they were almost all fakers in the end.
Another GOP endorsement for Trump!
Trump' going to finally kill this carbuncle called the Republican party.
That's good for a 3 to 5 point increase in Trump's poll numbers.
I have never heard any conservative say anything about turning people as described away. If an immigrant abides by the law, immigrates properly and loves our traditions, then they're welcome here with open arms.
Well... Strictly speaking, almost always there has been a recognition that we cannot allow everyone "in" who wants to come to the US to live, even if they are as described above. There have been for a long time more good people who desire the opportunities and freedom the US has been known for, than we can handle. This is no insult to those who find they must wait, and for the most part, those who do come here legally, work hard, love our traditions and the country, etc., find they are welcome. (This was explained to me very well by a Filipino friend who described what it's like in Japan for Filipinos, compared to being in the US.) Of course there are always exceptions, and certainly ugly incidents have occurred in the past, but that's just the thing: Those instances stand out because they are exceptions.
In my own case, I am married to a "brown" immigrant, and she finds VERY little discrimination here -- at least from whites. (I'd be pretty PO'd if she did!)
Still, circumstances at one time or another can dictate a very restricted flow of legal and otherwise desirable immigrants. Right now we have a truly horrific employment situation (despite the "liars sure can figure" emphasis on the U1 statistics.) We, and Europe, also have a grim security situation, with very poor screening of the bad apples. The latter is an immediate threat, the former is a ticking time bomb.*
Trump addresses the former in his position paper, which basically says we must drastically reduce immigration until the economic and employment situations improve. The immediate threat he has been addressing directly as of late, and no one not a fool, an idiot or radical ideologue can disagree...
*As an aside, let's just assume that US' "productivity" is so good that we can afford in an economic sense to have 94 million potential workers** out of the workplace. (That's NOT really true, but that's a different discussion.) Even if true, it is still a time bomb, because so many of the under and unemployed now off the radar are not just good ol' boys who will go fishing and drink a few beers, with little other repercussion. I do not think I need to repeat here the biblical and other sage adages about idle hands...
Add to this the desensitizing to violence and increasing lack of regard for life in our culture. We truly have a recipe for trouble brewing. Better to keep the potential troublemakers too busy to make trouble!
As it is, of course, our gov't seems to be almost maniacally committed to keeping those LEAST likely to make trouble (in a major societal way) too busy to see the bigger picture or fight back against the decay they see around them. And, it wants to take away their ability to defend themselves, too...
**Yes, yes, I know, some are students, and so on, and a small % really CAN'T work [at anything?]
Since we are just past Christmas, it is worth pointing out that the innkeeper (so far as we know) had no ill will toward Mary and Joseph. Was the innkeeper, Ms. Haley, supposed to boot someone already "resident", out to the stable?
Death to the infidel!
BTW, I was unable to catch any but the end of the GOPe / Haley response. But what I did see was very odd. Haley seemed to have her eyes intently(!) focused the whole time, never wavering at all, at a point approximately 10 ft. in back of MY skull. And, she was almost robotic. Even most decent public speakers using a teleprompter don’t “present” quite like that. I think Kahn (Star Trek II) put one of those larvae in her ear, sometime back...
I used to really like Nikki, but she certainly seems to have gone over to the dark side. Maybe that’s just how attaining a measure of real political power affects most people.
If voting changed anything, they would have banned it years ago.
Agreed. In an election year, the SOTU responder goes after her own party’s leading candidates? Note that I made that plural.
The GOPe are the ones who have gone insane with fear.
Governor Nikky Haley forgot that Trump was focusing on the illegal border crosser who come into America and violate our laws. When she says, “No one who is willing to work hard, abide by our laws, and love our traditions should ever feel unwelcome in this country.” she is talking about another immigrant who comes into America legally. It is the stupid that puts the two into the same bucket. And when we do, we stupidly allow a breach into our national security. I am sick and tired of this fuzzy logic.
She’s toast.
I really liked watching her. She is a very attractive women. Her delivery of the speech was the best I have seen for years. It was perfect. However, her wording left open implications that point to Donald Trump and many Americans:
“During anxious times, it can be tempting to follow the siren call of the angriest voices. We must resist that temptation. No one who is willing to work hard, abide by our laws, and love our traditions should ever feel unwelcome in this country.”
Trump’s words are angry because he has felt, like many Americans, betrayal. We have watched nothing being done to stop the flood of illegal border crossers who go into our cities and bring illegal drugs and commit crimes. If Trump’s words are passionate and if they sound angry, too bad. America wants a leader who will fight for the issues that we really care about; not fall quietly in line.
There are angry voices not reserved for just the immigration situation. The 2,009-page, $1.1 Trillion Consolidated Omnibus spending bill, which the Republican Congress approved and President Obama signed a week before Christmas, violates every promise that Republicans made to the voters who rewarded them with landslide victories in the 2010 and 2014 midterm elections. It’s no wonder that betrayed Republican voters have adopted a throw-the-bums-out attitude that supports the presidential campaign of Donald Trump.
Primary her!
Well Nikki will probably get mentioned at Trumps next SC rally. In the same portion of the speech that includes the other “losers” like Jeb, Obama and Hillary.
Its pretty obvious how threatened the GOP is of Trump. That whole bunch of thieves needs to be uprooted.
Thank you Nikki Haley for reaffirming WHY republicans have created Donald Trump. You have spent the last seven years SCARED TO DEATH to confront Barry about ANYTHING because he is BLACK and you are so SCARED of being called RACIST. You pander to 13% of the population while throwing the rest of us under the bus. If only you people had of gone after Barry like you’ve gone after Trump. These last 7 years have proved you people are weak and ineffective so if you want to know why Trump is in the lead, look in the mirror.
She’s on the Today Show right now and trashed Trump again.
(And in a rather tedious fashion, I might add.)
