Why it's very, very, very hard to imagine Jeb Bush winning the Republican nomination
Washington Post ^ | 1/8/16 | Chris Cillizza

There still exists in some parts of the Republican party an idea that Jeb Bush will, ultimately, reemerge as a serious candidate in the 2016 Republican race. That, after all of the Trumping is over, the former Florida governor's slow-and-steady approach will somehow be validated and he will wind up as the party's standard-bearer.

This chart -- built off of new numbers from Gallup polling -- should pour a swimming pool's worth of cold water on that notion.

Jeb(!) is now regarded more negatively than positively by Republicans and Republican-leaning voters. That would be bad enough given that it's those voters that Bush needs to woo if he hopes to win the GOP nod. But, it gets worse. Look at the trend line in that chart. In July, 54 percent of GOP voters had a favorable opinion of Bush compared to just 27 percent who saw him in an unfavorable light.

In the intervening six months, Bush's numbers have totally collapsed -- even amid an onslaught of more than $50 million in ads from Right to Rise, a super PAC working to elect him, in early voting states.

Even if, God Forbid, Bush did get the nomination, there is NO WAY he can win. Trump, or someone like him, will simply split the vote and Hillary will walk away with it. That’s why the media is pushing SO HARD to get Bush or someone like him the nomination.

, we need to end this insanity to make america great again”

Let’s not jump to conclusions. I can imagine Jeb winning.

Or more accurately, I want his big government big money donors to imagine it. I want Jeb, Rubio, and Christie all three to stay, so the pro-Amnesty vote will split three ways. If Jeb drops out too soon, that will hurt Cruz/Trump’s chances and hurt America (okay, only a little, but let’s keep our risk as low as possible).

The fact that they are still talking about Bush, and ever thought he would be a good candidate, shows how totally out of touch they are.

Agreed. Every appearance and statement from the Yeb! campaign reinforces everything people loathe about the GOPe. If Yeb! drops out too soon, the GOPe will slink back into the shadows and do their dirty work there. It’s nice to have the roaches out in the light for all to see.
