I misremembered the year. It was 1995 and the case was United States v Lopez.

Hillary has pledged to close all “below average” schools.

Think about that one for a while.

I see they added the requirement of the gun affecting interstate commerce to get around the USSC objection. So, if I'm carrying near a school in my state, the federal law doesn't apply to me, right? "(2)(A) It shall be unlawful for any individual knowingly to possess a firearm that has moved in or that otherwise affects interstate or foreign commerce at a place that the individual knows, or has reasonable cause to believe, is a school zone."

Wickard vs. Filburn pretty much takes care of that.

You really need to look at US v Lopez. It came later and was intended to limit federal over reach via interstate commerce.

Has it? Limited overreach?

It seems to have limited the reach of the gun free schools act

We need a federal law that forces lib jurisdictions to enforce the constitution whether they like it or not.

OK.

(2)(A) It shall be unlawful for any individual knowingly to possess a firearm that has moved in or that otherwise affects interstate or foreign commerce at a place that the individual knows, or has reasonable cause to believe, is a school zone."

By that wording it would seem that your gun had better have been manufactured in the same state as the school and never have left it.

President Trump, as Commander in Chief, could end “gun free zones” on military bases on day one of his presidency.

It would be harder to get rid of the “gun free school zones” legislation, but with a Republican Congress, he could, and should do it.

That legislation never made any sense execept as a way to disarm the country.

Another distortion by the press. I heard him say it “IN” not ‘around’. BIG difference. In as in armed guards or teachers. Not ‘around’ as in anybody within 200 feet.

Sounds great, but how you going to do it Donald?

Extort the states like the feds extorted the states to enact Gun Free Zones.

Tell that to the current resident of WH. He just signed an executive order to require background checks for all gun sales.

Awesome. One problem: HOW? Gun free zones are (stupidly) set by local and state authorities. The Federal government, specifically the Justice Department CAN file Federal Civil Rights lawsuits in every single jurisdiction challenging the Constitutionality of such laws, but those will take at least 2 years to work their way through the courts. None of this “Day 1” crap.

Yep, but military bases are not what I had in mind, though.

Ah, I think any state education programs funded by federalistas would have to follow suit, would they not? Like school lunches and contraceptives, etc., I mean.
