Coulter: Cruz is not a natural born citizen
The Hill ^

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter, who has been boosting Donald Trump for president, took to Twitter on Wednesday to declare that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is not a natural born citizen.

Ann Coulter @AnnCoulter

Same lawyers who said anchor babies are in the Constitution now tell us being born outside U.S to 1 American parent = natural born citizen.

Ann Coulter @AnnCoulter

NYT: Cruz was born outside the U.S. to 1 American parent: "Under the Constitution this makes him a 'natural born citizen.'” Absolutely false

Coulter joins Trump in questioning whether Cruz can legally be president.

“Republicans are going to have to ask themselves the question: ‘Do we want a candidate who could be tied up in court for two years?’ That’d be a big problem,” Trump told The Washington Post on Tuesday.

What were the founders trying to accomplish by establishing a criteria of higher “purity in allegiance” by requiring the Presidency, or Vice Presidency, be held to a higher standard, than any other position? It’s just two positions... out of all the rest- in government. Just two.

From the U.S. Citizenship URL linked: To become a citizen at birth, you must:

Have been born in the United States or certain territories or outlying possessions of the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction of the United States; OR

had a parent or parents who were citizens at the time of your birth (if you were born abroad) and meet other requirements

The "and meet other requirements" part is always glossed over or ignored by people citing citizenship given at birth to those born abroad.

I believe the "other requirements" are that the parent(s) must have lived at least five years in the U.S. after reaching the age of 14.

Under these "other requirements", Cruz still qualifies as a citizen-at-birth. So would Obama -- if he was born in Hawaii. But not if he was born in Canada or Kenya.

I really was more concerned about rogue justices than about Cruz’ legal status, but ????

Her tweet:

NYT: Cruz was born outside the U.S. to 1 American parent: ‘Under the Constitution this makes him a ‘natural born citizen.’ Absolutely false [unquote]

And Coulter was a clerk to the supreme court. And what’s this about his Canadian passport? He actually was a dual citizen until recently?

Hm ....

‘Looking over Wiki, for what it’s worth, says only 1 parent.’

A lot of Establishment types and libs bent over backwards to validate Obama. His mother was a US citizen, but if fuzzy memory serves, his fatehr was not, in fact his father was born into a militant family, one of which was tortured by the English military. [But enough about Obama the Lame Duck.]

I wrote long ago that something must be true: I assume our Founding Fathers did not want a royal bastard or noble bastard to be foisted off as President. That’s my opinion since as scholars of ancient Rome they knew that Rome rebelled due to tyranny by foreign [Etruscan] kings.

The Constitution ‘trumps’ law:

No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President ...

No laws out-interpret original intent.

The intent of our founding fathers was to prevent a foreign tyrant or his bastard [arguably Obama] from becoming President. But ... Cruz is no Obama-bastard. They would have adjusted the Constitution to qualify him if they had known him, I am certain.

But as to their policy at the time, I have often wondered how our Founding Fathers would have allowed the King of England to take a whore from the US, knock her up, and groom the bastard to be President of the US?

Coulter is right. And she’s a far superior warrior of the constitution than Cruz is

On what planet is that?
How many cases of grave constitutional important has Coulter ever argued before the US Supreme Court?

Mark Levin says yes and Coulter says no. Which one supported Christie and Romney?

Didn't Levin, the Great Retard, declare he supported Saint Rick and Michelle Bachmann, those paragons of virtue and success?

Idiot Levin supported Santorum even as he was lying his ass off, tearing down conservatives, just to end up losing to Mitt Romney.

What a maroon! Any idiot could tell that Saint Rick had no chance at the Presidency. Maybe that's the real reason Levin supported him in the first place. Levin makes more money when he's an Opposition Radio Host.

And Coulter was a clerk to the supreme court.

So was Cruz. And to Chief Justice Rehnquist no less. And Cruz has argued and won major cases on the constitution before the US Supreme Court as Solicitor General of Texas. How many cases has Coulter argued before let alone won before the US Supreme Court?

Michelle Bachmann and Rick Santorum are far, far, far more conservative than Romney or Christie. It's not even close.

Cruz was born in Canada to a Canadian father......and a native-born American mother......thus making Cruz a dual Canadian-American citizen.

Cruz was elected to the Texas State Senate as an unacknowledged dual citizen.

It was not until a 2013 Dallas Morning News article that Cruz acknowledged his Canadian citizenry publicly. In 2014, the senator publicly renounced his Canadian citizenship altogether.

Cruz consistently depicted himself as "latino" Yet his family bgrnd indicates only his father is Spanish; his mother is of two nationalities, Italian and Irish from each of her parents.

Cruz ran in Texas as a latino (which has a wealth of latino votes). Cruz even convinced the Senate biographer that he was the first latino elected to the Senate (besides Rubio).

As the immigration issue grew negative in the world of politics, being known as a latino has lost its luster.

Yes I know. I’m just curious how much research she did or whether she’s just tweaking everyone.

You are strong in your beliefs but resistant to nuance.

Ted Cruz had the potential to be a natural born citizen at the time of his birth despite being born in Canada. His mother needed to document the birth and her status at the time or later to protect that status as a citizen at birth. That is the law. If she did not do it at birth there was a window before he was 18 where he would still be adjudged as a citizen from birth. I’m sure that was done and documented so this issue has no legs once the facts emerge. This is important because it is an issue the Dems can use.

Citizenship is not automatic when you are born outside the country even with a citizen parent you need to prove the citizen parent’s bona fides. It is not even automatic inside this country; if you are born at home you need to register the birth to get a birth certificate. That birth certificate proves you are born in America.

Thank you, Liz. If Hillary runs ads, “Is he a Canadian or an American?’

Wouldn’t be fair, but is what it is.

I don’t if it matters, but needs to be considered.

Michelle Bachmann and Rick Santorum are far, far, far more conservative than Romney or Christie. It's not even close.

Puleeze, they were losers, and in Santorum's case, a fraud. Mr. "Courageous Conservative", after promising to not savage other candidates, was sitting there savaging and misrepresenting Newt's NASA/Moon base thing, while Rick's website was still hawking-- as its top issue-- his opposition to Porno. Santorum had no chance. No chance ever. The only choices that election were: Newt Gingrich (after Cain's bimbo fiasco) or Mitt Romney. Mittens, as pathetic as he is, was a stronger candidate than Rick Santorum or Michelle, who would have lost in a supreme landslide to Obama. Newt Gingrich-- if he had gone rogue and stayed rogue-- was the only alternative.

Levin, Beck, and the other idiots, chose to prop up a sure loser candidate, letting Matt Drudge and Team Romney butcher Newt with the lies on Bloody Thursday, and thus couldn't stop the nomination of a candidate who-- though he would have done better in the general than Ricky-- was doomed to fail because he was a Mormon Bishop and a pathological liar that was despised by 30 percent of his own base.

You cannot be serious.
This is not even an issue. Bachmann and Santorum are vastly more conservative than than Romney or Christie. Their records speak for themselves. Romney is the father of Obamacare, supported abortion most of his life etc.
Bachmann has been anti abortion all her life, fought like heck against Obamacare etc. Not even sure why you are arguing about it.

Perfectly serious! You also ignored most of what I wrote, but, then, not surprising for one of FR's lower IQ sorts. Saint Rick is just another in a long line of shady characters who pander to Evangelicals (he was a Roman Catholic!) for purely cynical, political reasons, but had zero appeal beyond the gullible 20 or 30 percent of the voting base. Saint Rick had the "Dangers of Porn" at the top of his Issues page for most of his campaign. That right there tells you why Saint Rick was never going to beat Romney nor win the general.
