Cruz Puts Dewhurst on Defensive in Last Debate Before TX Runoff on border wall [Way-back Machine]
Fox News ^ | July 18, 2012 | Roque Planas

July 18, 2012

"........ [Ted] Cruz, who is 41 and has never held elected office, staked out more extreme positions than the 66-year-old Dewhurst, a career politician who has presided over the Texas Senate as Lieutenant Governor since 2003.

"My touchstone for every question is the Constitution," Cruz said, adopting the refrain commonly heard from Tea Party supporters.

".....Cruz went on the offensive against Dewhurst on illegal immigration-a key issue in the state that shares the longest stretch of U.S.-Mexico border-calling attention to Dewhurst's 2007 support of a guest worker program for the state's undocumented immigrants, announced at a speech in South Texas.

Cruz called the guest worker idea more expansive than President Obama's decision to call off deportations for immigrants without criminal records who came here illegally as children-a policy that Cruz opposes and called "illegal."

Dewhurst, who has taken a more pragmatic approach to the issue of illegal immigration, avoided clarifying whether he currently supports such a program.

Cruz also distinguished himself from Dewhurst with his full-throated support for a border wall estimated by the Department of Homeland Security to cost $7.3 billion, or $6.5 million per mile.

Cruz defended the border wall proposal even if it meant expropriating private property-a position that the debate's moderators, WFAA reporter Brad Watson and Gromer Jeffers of the Dallas Morning News, said contrasted with Cruz's message of fiscal conservatism.

"One of the specific powers and responsibilities of the federal government is to secure the borders," Cruz said. "Property can be taken with due process of law and just compensation."......

No he hasn’t, he has only mentioned the stupid fence, only one candidate has campaigned for a wall and truly secure border as they have in Israel. In fact, Cruz wasn’t even talking about stopping amnesty and immigration until Trump force fed it to him and the other candidates.

I am reminded of the three Kims of North Korea when I hear Trump's fans speaking

Trump has electrolytes.

-— Romney’s solution of “self deportation” for illegal aliens made no sense and suggested that Republicans do not care about Hispanics in general, Trump says.

“He had a crazy policy of self deportation which was maniacal,” Trump says. “It sounded as bad as it was, and he lost all of the Latino vote,” Trump notes. “He lost the Asian vote. He lost everybody who is inspired to come into this country.” -—

You have to give him credit. He’s consistently inconsistent.

So if Cruz is such a great supporter of a wall, why hasn’t he mentioned it once since 2012? Maybe he said it in 2012 to get elected? Now for a short public service announcement to all on FR:
We need to ensure we don't get another Obama-like America Hater as the next President.
The best way to ensure that is to actively support a candidate as the next President.
I prefer Cruz and my money goes to his campaign, hence the Cruz link. If you like someone else, donate to him/her (find your own link to do it) and if you use FR and don't donate, then please don't complain about the welfare leeches or those who have Obama Phones because, functionally, you are no different than any other who enjoys the fruits of others' work for your own benefit.

PS - If you are one of those who cannot afford even a small donation to FR or a candidate, God Bless and happy FReeping!.....

GO CRUZ!! Keep it up Trump!!

Donate to FR

“In fact, Cruz wasn’t even talking about stopping amnesty and immigration until Trump force fed it to him and the other candidates.”

You as well as I know that statement is laced with more BS than a north Texas pasture. Go to www.ontheissues.com and you’ll find Cruz was fighting the anti-illegal alien battle long before Trump bellowed his way onto the scene.

HAS ANYONE HEARD ANYONE BUT THE TRUMP? Not many trumpees have.
You don’t remember Cruz saying he would get Trump to pay for it?
My blood boils at trumpees who from the start give Trump credit for every fart, defend his disortions and lies, don’t care that he has the worst record of any GOP candidate AND always give Cruz who has obviously been copying Cruz since the beginning.
And you forget he polled 2% in his primary against Dewhurst and beat him more than handily.
Cruz is not a braggart, whiner, crybaby or bully.

Eminent domain was used by Trump lawfully and legally and with compensation just like it would be in the border fence case. It is also not the most pressing issue, its roughly number 450 on the list of things that matter.

Trump was still supporting Hillary and Bill Clinton with praise and lots of money when Cruz was fighting for our borders.

Yes sir!
Lord Trump is the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end, the source of everything that is good and wholesome in this world.
All Hail, the Great Lord Trump. And bless his funny hair too.

I can imagine the acres that border Mexico that don’t have a wall are very fluid. Is it really private property if the border patrol is minimal?

This is something Trump actually had control over and look what he did. He put his own interest above the public interest, just as he did by donating to Democrats and Republicans for 20 years.

He was able to spare lots of money for the Clintons (over 100K alone for their crime foundation). Yet he stopped funding for medical aid for his nephew's infant to get even with him.
