Obamacare Tightens Yoke on Small Business

On January 1 the employer mandate went into effect for businesses with 50-99 workers. One of the worst of Obamacare's ill-conceived provisions went quietly into effect on January 1.

The employer mandate, previously inflicted only on businesses with 100 or more employees, will now be imposed on those with as few as 50. This mandate will prevent countless small employers from hiring workers they would otherwise have hired and incentivize many others to replace full-time employees with part-timers. It is such an obvious job killer that the Obama administration delayed enforcement until after the 2014 midterms, the liberal Urban Institute has called for its repeal, and it has even been obliquely criticized by Hillary Clinton.

The employer mandate requires all businesses with 50 or more full-time employees to provide health coverage to at least 95 percent of these employees as well as any dependents they may have under age 26 — or pay crippling fines. But not all small employers can afford to offer insurance. Those which lack the resources to do so will avoid the mandate by assuring that the number of full-time workers they employ remains below 50. And, because Obamacare has arbitrarily redefined "full-time" to mean 30 or more hours per week, the employer mandate effectively caps both the number of workers many businesses can hire and how many hours they will work.

Hint: Think 29 1/2 hours per week or less.

I imagine nearly all companies in this boat have taken whatever action they are going to. Any stats to be had regarding this?

My electrician has 48 full time employees but needs 2 dozen more now!

He can’t do it! And, electricians are hard to find that will work “part time” for long.

So, many people that could be employed are not being employed because of Obama and the Democratic Party. And, this is just from one man in one small business!

And the Chamber of Commerce cheers, as all those upstart competitors remain stifled.

Why didn’t the GOP bring this up during the last congressional session? (Like I don’t know.)

Tell him to ‘create’ a ‘new’ company, split the workers between his old and new companies and continue as before................

And she also seems unaware that an employee can work fewer than 40 hours per week and still be considered full-time in the brave new world of Obamacare.

Politicians on both sides of the aisle often seem to be unaware of the actual mechanics of the legislation they pass. They remember only the "good intentions" behind it - and that's what they repeat in public. When challenged with facts, they reframe the question to accuse the questioner of "bad intentions."

It would be a trivial tactic to defeat - if we had an actual independent media.

Redistributing ‘the wealth’ by means of edict not congressional bills. The thug regime would tell you that ‘those small businesses are not doling out enough of their obscene profit margin’. The democrats are trying to fashion a mix of fascism and communism ... their dream for a once great Republic, yet the democraps will get re-elected by the dolees.

My accountants and lawyers are advising 25 hours or less. I also cannot make health insurance available to part timers at their cost. If I offer it to them I have to offer it to them at the same rate as full time.

I pay 100% of health insurance for full time employees. I cant afford to pay it for part timers so part timers can’t even buy it through me.

Well, a majority of the people that voted demanded, via their votes, that a muslim have the rule over them. Their prayers were answered. What are they bitching and crying about? It is us that voted against the bastard that should be complaining. As far as I am concerned, hell with them. Let them cry.

Its all OK - we have a Federal Reserve that plans our monetary system soviet-style, who can print up all the unbacked, paper dollars, and manipulate interest rates, to support all the debt the US Government needs to pay for 90-100 million non-working Americans. Its all good!

Businesses that hold their workforce to under 50 workers are called “49ers,” “29ers” are workers who are hired to work under the 30 hours required for the Obamacare mandates:

“...When I go around this country, I can’t tell you how many businessmen and women I talk to say, I will be damned if I ever hire a 50th worker. And if you look at the data it’s startling.

Because we keep track of the average number of people per establishment what we’re finding is there’s a big cap at 45 to 50 workers, right? So employers are capping at 45 to 50, and they’re not going above that.”

“Tell him to ‘create’ a ‘new’ company, split the workers between his old and new companies and continue as before................”

My son says he is seeing this in small industries related to the high tech business, especially start-ups that need more than 50 workers to operate.

I think they are well on to that scheme.

The next thing I hear they are going to be doing is to attack S corps. They hate independence and they want that monthly tax revenue instead of “just” the quarterly payments.

I think they are well on to that scheme.

They may be, but there is nothing they can do about it. They can't lower the number of employees required to trigger the requirement without Congress changing the law..................
