Militiamen Vow to Hold Federal Wildlife Office in Oregon ‘For Years’
New York Times ^ | 1/3/16

Posted on 01/03/2016 12:02:09 PM PST by Timpanagos1

Federal officials said on Sunday that they were monitoring the armed takeover of a remote federal wildlife refuge in the rural southeastern corner of Oregon. The occupation, which began Saturday afternoon, appeared to be led by Ammon Bundy, a rancher whose family became a symbol of anti-government sentiment in 2014, when his father inspired a standoff between local militias and federal officials seeking to confiscate cattle grazing illegally on federal land.

I tried to post a summary, but the symbols that don't self correct glob up the text. So here's a summary connection for anyone who is interested.

‘Appears’ means no one has spoken to Bundy and ALL reporting is conjecture. Not sure how he’d get any signal anyway.

He spoke to CNN live not too long ago. Mentioned in my editorial. He spoke... poorly.

There are plenty of campsites and hiking trails throughout that area.

If the Feds don't block the whole place off it would seem that it would be easy for people to resupply them.

Of course that would be considered aiding and abetting so anyone that hikes in better have a way of hiking out so as not to be picked up by the Feds.

They are claiming to have 100-150 people and the food, water, and supplies to last them for years.

There is apparently no need to resupply them, at least for another two years.

It all seems rather easy.

Let’s say 125 people, each using two gallons of water per day.
That is only 250 gallons of water per day or 91,250 gallons per year.

For two years,
that is only 1,522,000 pounds of water.

They could have easily loaded all of that in back of their trucks.

Let’s hope this ends peacefully. There is a good update from Mike over at Sipsey Street Irregulars.

Posted an article from the Oregonian last week warning about this and explaining about the Hammond case, but the moderators zotted the post right away? Hopefully it ends well with no bloodshed, but it is drawing national attention. The Federal government had no reason to retry the Hammonds as terrorists and send them back to jail for an additional 5 years for a crime that was never arson. Absolute insanity for the federal government to get way with this injustice!

Playing devil’s advocate ... If it was not arson, then why did a jury convict them of arson? From what I have read, there were issues of alleged poaching (feds admitted there was no “evidence” of such remaining following the supposed arson) on so-called federal land ... So was the jury wrong or misled? What is the truth regarding the alleged hunting party incident - and the resultant fire, to which these two were accused of purposely starting so to cover up their poaching of deer?

Moreover, it appears that the testimony given against them was by members of the very hunting party they were leading. Smells like the feds cut a deal with them ... I suspect that something else is afoot here. Is there motive for the feds to have designs on the Hammond Ranch?

I was thinking the same thing. Why couldn't they WAIT until a change of administration?

The fire was set on their own land to burn out invasive juniper. The fire spread to a few acres of BLM land. There were also lightning strikes causing fire so it is impossible to tell which fire encroached onto the few acres of BLM land. The judge ordered the jury to convict if a fire was started and not how and why. Arson is intending to cause harm maliciously. This was range management and even BLM biologists years after the fire admitted the land benefited. The Oregon Farm Bureau supported the Hammonds and were outraged. The Feds want the land for a national reserve and forced out other ranchers and the Hammonds were the only hold outs from selling their private land, so yes this is a Federal BLM land grab.

This is a stupid act by the Bundy group to force the Feds into taking action and is not the right way to solve this issue. The Hammonds have not been dealt with justly, but this will not accomplish anything in a positive way.

“A lake provides the water.”

A lake also provides open space where federal law enforcement can arrest anyone who leaves the building to fetch water.

Liberals are out in droves on Twitter. It seems that the administration has decided to make this a flash point.
