ST. CLOUD, Fla. - Police in St. Cloud said a woman mistook her daughter for an intruder, fatally shooting her late Tuesday night.

According to police, the homeowner fired one round at the subject, who was later identified as the homeowner's 27-year-old daughter. The victim was taken to Osceola Regional Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

"It's shocking, I tell you that much," said neighbor Harry Morris.

St. Cloud police officials said they aren't releasing the names of the mother or daughter since a person in their household is in law enforcement and Florida law permits the withholding of identities in such cases. Sources tell WESH 2 News the mother is a dispatcher with a local law enforcement agency...................

Reading between the lines would indicate that mom is probably a cop.

According to the article she is a dispatcher. Some departments have dispatchers that aren't technically LEOs. No word yet on which department employs her.

Sources tell WESH 2 News the mother is a dispatcher with a local law enforcement agency.

Did the daughter break down the door? Was the daughter armed? Was the dog shot?

According to this article http://www.torontosun.com/2015/12/30/florida-woman-mistakes-daughter-for-intruder-shoots-her-dead-cops the mother is a 911 dispatcher and the father is a local cop who has done undercover work, so they don't want to release the names.

Ironic. More info from the Canadian media than from our local lame stream media. Thanks for posting that.

But why would someone undercover be required to reveal that anyway?

Then again, I don’t think the media should have revealed the father has worked undercover. This just arouses the curiosity of some bad guys who may have been affected by his clandestine work. Talk about painting a target on someone!

Ya, they’re painting a huge target on him.

This is tragic though, assuming mom and dad loved their daughter, I can’t imagine what they’re going through.

Always be sure of your target.

Why does FL law permit that—the withholding of names when a household member is in law enforcement?

Coverups don't happen by themselves?

Proof positive that we should only allow police and military to possess firearms.

There is so much corruption potential in other areas because of these hidden law provision for the ‘elite’ I call them VIP people. When it comes to public records, i.e. taxes and assessment, they are all hidden from public scrutiny. So what stops the county assessors from giving tax breaks to these elite ones since the values and specifics are all hidden from public scrutiny ???

There’s only 4 rules for firearms safety.... one of those is “know your target, and what’s behind it, before you shoot”. It’s important.

I assume they don’t want home addresses of police to get out into public.

I agree—special rules for government insiders/elite are odious.

They should live by the same rules as the rest of us.
