Sad, another part of my childhood has slipped away. Thanks for the joyful memories in my childhood Mr. Lemon.

He, and the others on the team, were a great group of guys.
They were a true joy for kids.

Loved watching the Globe Trotters TV specials back in the early 1970s. Great family fun. RIP Meadowlark.

Wilt Chamberlain called him the greatest player of all time
Indeed. I've heard this about other Globetrotter players. That their talents, skills and abilities could make most NBA players look small.

It was fun watching them during the 1970s. They used to be on Wide World of Sports with Howard Cosell.
When they did play NBA teams, I think they were pretty much undefeated. They won something like 20,000 exhibition games in a row (not all against NBA teams).
I always wondered if the teams they played "threw" those games for the entertainment value or if the Globetrotters were really that good.

What a classy guy and great performer he was.
RIP

Fun fact: both Meadow and Michael Jordan grew up in Wilmington NC (although MJ was born in Brooklyn) - not sure what they put in the water in that part of coastal North Carolina, but they sure know how to grow basketball players!

I got to see these guys way way back in 1971 when they came to Columbus, Georgia while I was stationed at Fort Benning. They were a complete hoot. Meadowlark was fantastic. He did all the tricks that he performed on their televised games. Back in those days they were on the old ABC Wide World of Sports a lot. He was a great “performer”!!! You got your money’s worth and went home with sore ribs from all the laughing.

Saw them twice in the early 70’s. I was a HUGE fan of the Globetrotters. Meadowlark Lemon and Curly Neal were my favorite bball players of all time.
Rest in peace Mr. Lemon.
