Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee is defending an ad critical of 2016 GOP rival Sen. Ted Cruz's (R-Texas) comments on same-sex marriage.
On "Fox News Sunday," the former Arkansas governor was asked whether the pro-Huckabee ad's editing was selective.
"No, not at all," Huckabee said. "And there's nothing selective, there was nothing deceptive. The point is that in Iowa he's made a major point, and he's pitched to evangelicals as a person who is utterly authentic, he's going to fight for religious liberty, he's going to protect the right of people to disagree with decisions on same-sex marriage. But that's not what you heard in that Manhattan fundraiser and that's the only thing that I have pointed out."
A super PAC called Pursuing America's Greatness recently produced the ad in Iowa, which includes audio of an exchange between Cruz and an unidentified person at a New York fundraiser. The man asks Cruz whether he views his opposition to marriage rights for same-sex couples as a "top-three priority." In the ad, Cruz is heard simply replying, "No."
But the ad drew criticism from The Washington Post, which pointed out that Cruz's comments were longer.
"No, I would say defending the Constitution is a top priority," he said in the audio, obtained by Politico and recorded at a fundraiser in New York. "And that cuts across the whole spectrum -- whether it's defending the First Amendment, defending religious liberty, stopping courts from making public policy issues that are left to the people. And I also think the 10th Amendment to the Constitution cuts across a lot of issues."

Mr. Huckabee, it does not matter what anyone’s position on gay marriage is, or abortion, or anything else that the SCOTUS decides to decide for us.
As long as We the People give the SCOTUS the power to decide the direction of our society anytime it chooses, then that is exactly what it’s going to do.
They made gay marriage legal, that’s it, that’s all, end of story, the genie ain’t going back in the bottle, so stop wasting people’s time talking about what you think about it, because it’s pointless.
The question is what, as a society, are we going to do with the rogue court of lawyer gods that we have allowed to exist?
Huckster got Romney nominated last time. I could care less what he says or does. Don’t trust him at all.

BFAC, I seem to recall that you routinely post Trump-favoring articles. Why are you posting this? It builds up Cruz as a good man being besmirched by horrendous selective editing. That will only raise interest in Cruz, especially as the full backstory leaks out in his defense. Have you switched loyalties? Or have I misunderstood where you are coming from?

Huckabee misunderstands the point. Protecting the Constitution is protecting religious liberty. I agree with Huckabee on this point, that marriage is defined as one man, one woman for all time, all people, and that it should be so nationally. That is why I picked Huckabee over Cruz at first. Huckabee has no chance and so the I’ll take what Cruz offers, though it is the lesser position, imo. But there has been no deception. I understand this to be Cruz’s position from the start.
