‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ is atheist, Communist propaganda
NY Post ^ | December 24, 2015 | Kyle Smith

The Christmas Eve showing of “It’s a Wonderful Life” may be intended to make you believe in the importance of even an ordinary person’s life, but underneath that, what are the film’s secret hidden messages, the ones that become apparent only after two or three eggnogs? Let’s mull over some of the wackier possibilities.

It’s a salute to atheism. It’s “the least religious but most humanist film you could ever see,” said David Wilson in The Guardian, because it suggests people should fix their problems on Earth rather than waiting for God to help out. Regarding Jimmy Stewart’s character George Bailey, Wilson notes: “Even if he does at one point pray to God, [Bailey] is not religious at all, but simply a man trying to find transcendence in the routine of his life and in his duties to his family, friends and community . . . [director] Frank Capra . . . had a lifelong apathy towards his Catholic upbringing, and

It’s Commie propaganda. A 1947 memo by the FBI containing interviews with Hollywood types, which became of interest to the House Un-American Activities Committee, stated, “With regard to the picture ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’, [REDACTED] stated in substance that the film represented a rather obvious attempt to discredit bankers by casting Lionel Barrymore as a ‘scrooge-type’ so that he would be the most hated man in the picture.” This, according to these sources, is a common trick used by Communists. The pressure eased up when a witness liked by the HUAC, ex-Communist screenwriter John Charles Moffitt, testified

“A vast amount of catholic art portrays men becoming angels, and portrays Peter standing at a gate with wings.”

If we’re even going to consider anything about a vast amount of Catholic art, when did “Catholic art” begin?

“There is also a considerable amount that portrays female angels, which the word of God denies...”

There are no female angels, and there are no male angels. Only beings with a body can be male or female. Angels do not have bodies.

“...and human looking angels in ‘heaven.’”

Manifestations of angelic beings have been in various ways; many times in human form, many times as having wings. Artistic representations have followed suit.

Painted frescoes on the walls of catacombs and meeting houses of the earliest persecuted Chritians by the Romans are the first examples of Catholic art.

There is also a considerable amount that portrays female angels, which the word of God denies, and human looking angels in ‘heaven.’

Oh man, where do you people come from? I took a break from FR for a few months. I came back, and suddenly its like the short bus had an accident, so the hockey helmet crowd escaped and decided to take over this website.

There is also so-called "Catholic" art that portrays saints walking around with gold platters suspended above their heads, Semitic people looking like Norwegians, Moses having horns, people habitually covering their private parts with fig leafs (or, for that matter just being naked all the time), and, in possibly the greatest example of "Catholic" (or perhaps any) art of all time, the Blessed Mother looking like she's half the age of her dead Son. It's called artistic license, dumbass. Not to be confused with catechism

For that matter, Michelangelo included his name and address on the sash across Mary's chest, the only time he ever signed a sculpture.

Or, are we meant to believe that the artist had a time machine, was present in Jerusalem at the time of the crucifixion, and presented this sash to Mary to express his condolences?

satire?

Seems likely, if you are at all familiar with the author, who reviews movies and writes conservative editorials for the NY Post.

But life and Atticus Finch have taught me that it is usually a waste of time to try to reason with a lynch mob.

In real life, someone like Potter might get away with stealing all of that money, and someone like that does not care what the consequences are for an innocent person. Contrast that with the people who sacrifice to help George. In a cosmic justice scenario Potter would have been found out and the money would be recovered and nothing is really lost. But life isn’t always that easy and satisfying. Instead, the money really is lost but the good townspeople pay a debt they don’t really owe in order to help George.

Obfuscation. Crappy try. One Bible link that says dead people aren't angels. Is that so hard?

And I say that angels have bellybuttons. Care to dispute that? Then provide me with a Bible link that disproves my assertion!

Can't do it? Then I win the argument!

If the downfall of George would have been portrayed in a more hard biting realistic fashion, the movie would have been extended by an hour or more.

Yeah, what this movie really needed was an extended scene with George in a bunker, pounding his fist on a table and raving "Fegelein, Fegelein!"

Actually it’s not Kyle who suggests it but someone named David Wilson. Kyle is just relating others’ whacky theories for entertainment.

The money was wrapped up in the newspaper that George’s brother thrust into Potter’s hands. The uncle was absent minded not a drunk. The newspaper had a headline about George’s brother returning home a war hero. The uncle was taunting Potter about the headline.

It’s just a movie for God’s sake. Can’t people just relax. And if it was a socialist message from 65 years ago...I think it failed miserably.

Atheist film? Does that explain the daughter’s reference to an Angel getting his wings?

Take your meds, Kyle.
