A 15-year-old high school football player was hailed a hero after he was fatally shot as he covered three girls when a man ârandomlyâ opened fire on a crowd in Tennessee, police said Friday.
âZaevion Dobson, a 15-year-old Fulton High School student and football player, was struck and killed after he had jumped on top of three girls to shield them from the shooters,â Knoxville police Chief David Rausch said, appearing emotional as he held back tears during a news conference.
None of the three girls were injured, according to a GoFundMe page for Dobson, that said he was âour hero.â
Thursdayâs deadly incident began when Brandon Perry, 23, shot his mother, Lisa, in the back several times, police said.
She suffered non-life threatening injuries, and a 10-year-old who was also inside the residence was not injured, according to the Knoxville Police Department.

He was a knucklehead. A misdirected youth. If only there had been more night basketball in his neighborhood.
No, the Amish theme was a direct result of the media’s not identifying the race of perps when they were black or Hispanic. It had become so glaringly obvious that the term “child” or “youth” in all of these articles was a euphemism for teenaged to yound 20s black or Hispanic criminal, probably with a rap sheet a mile long.
As a result of their constantly and consistently refusing to identify the perps race, we started a running joke as to who the perps could POSSIBLY be and chose one of the most peaceful and non-violent sets of people in America for the sarcasm.
So the term “Amish” most certainly never meant nor was intended to mean the vague broad category of “people who deserve no respect”. Not even close. It was specifically targeted toward the media’s systematic censorship to name black and Hispanic perps when it was glaringly obvious.
Now let’s just get back to celebrating a Hero who saved 3 other lives. Who cares his skin color, he is a hero and he has a place in Heaven, sacrificing his own life for others.
+2...
I don’t understand your statement in this context.
Sounds reasonable to me. I’ll give that some thought.
Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.
John15:13
Rest in peace, hero.
May God comfort all who loved him.
But. The term later morphed into a knee-jerk reaction to any crime story where the FR posters did not know the race of the perpetrator/assailant. So yes, it became the vaguest, and broadest term imaginable. And if the perp ultimately turned-out to be white (ahem, not "Amish"), it didn't matter one bit . . . because the knee-jerk users of the term were already off and posting on other threads.
And probably complaining the loudest when I pointed it out here, but that's another story.
You’re a blight on this site, you’ve supported job exporting and now you’re a flat out racist.
You’re the worst of the worst and have been for a lot of subjects.
Oh, just shut up, n00b.
My guess is he will no doubt be honored and should be. Not many kids his age would have done that nor been expected to have that good of judgement. There's some rough neighborhoods in Fulton High's coverage area. It's about a mile from where a carjacking double rape, torture, murder happened a few years ago. A few blocks one way or another can make the difference in some parts of it. At night in that area I carry but I seldom go into that area anymore except for seeing a doctor at a hospital behind the high school and I don't carry when going there. I have a cousin who taught school at Fulton up till a couple years ago. Fulton isn't a bad school.
I commend the hero's parents for bringing up an exceptional young man. That said KPD needs to start cracking down on gangs and get the officers off the darned Interstates running speed traps. Let the state patrol the interstates and concentrate on cleaning up gang activity. It shouldn't be an impossible task. There's about 5-6 larger Section 8 projects in Knoxville. That would be a good place to start.
My dad grew up in the poorer parts of Knoxville in the late 1920's and up to mid 1940's till he joined the Navy. Being poor was never an allowed excuse for anyone to do wrong for him or his siblings. The communities didn't put up with it not even the poor ones he lived in. His parents struggled but his dad worked from dusk till dawn and his mom stayed home.
Section 8 and the welfare state that came with it began the crime problems in Knoxville. When I was a kid about 8 years old we lived in Knoxville and didn't lock the doors. I'm now 58 and live in a rural area. The state turning seriously mentally ill out on the streets caused problems as well. Homelessness sadly has become big business in Knoxville. Meaning simply missions with high administrative overhead. Many on the Knox County 24 hour arrest website have the same address which is a mission. The gangbangers usually don't show up because Juvies names are not released.
They should consider naming a football field or athletic award after this young man.
Excellent idea!
*I still don’t understand what happened at Fort Hood.*
We’ll never know ... just plain old *workplace violence* ....move on soldier, nothing to see here.
A true hero. So few of these in today’s world. Godspeed to him....he was a god man. We need many more like him.
Agree with that thinking. That Amish thing is SO old, and SO not funny.
Yeah, all I was doing was lashing-out at the âAmishâ-thing. Itâs old.

Fully agree! The term is lame, overused, and WAY past its “use by” date! ....I find it hard to believe that there are some FR posters that continue to use the term. They are only supporting the PC culture by not saying black instead.
I’m trying to find out info on the shooters. Who are these people. Clearly, if they were white we’d know right?
And he was right...
“You need taken down”
Ebonics?
