Because no one is able to co-sign her student loans, Ashley Fleming, a 24-year-old college senior with one more semester left, may not be able to graduate. With close to $100,000 in student loans, and no longer allowed to take another leave of absence to work, Fleming has resorted to crowdfunding her tuition and set up a GoFundMe page to ask for help.

Start Earning Gas Rewards Today Speedway Sponsored   As a first-generation college student, from Manassas, VA, Fleming was mostly on her own when researching how to finance her education. Her parents, both retired, attempted to co-sign her loans but were denied.

“My parents supported me through the process as best they could,” says Fleming, “but they didn’t really understand, and unfortunately did not have the credit to help me out financially.”

For the first two years of school, she got enough financial aid to afford a $43,000-per-year tuition at her dream school, American University. But the aid to cover the next two years didn’t come through as expected and she’s since struggled to make it to the finish line...

Yep. My tuition per semester was $450 (in the mid ‘80s). I started my 1st job aftet college working at a mini-mart as we needed to show at least $500 a month income from me so the wife and I could buy our 1st house. While I was schlepping beer I was also looking for a good paying job which I found within 3 weeks of starting that one.

Grads these days would rather sit on their arses complaining about not being handed a job than working at whatever was a available to make things work.

If she's reasonably good-looking, she could easily make $50,000 a year in DC as an "escort"

Think again, she looks more like she named her car "Brad".

Fleming has resorted to crowdfunding her tuition and set up a GoFundMe page to ask for help.

This is the kind of sound advice that can only be learned by consulting with college peers who watch TV.

The socialization advantages of college cannot be overestimated.

It’s not that no one is able to co-sign, it’s that no one is willing.

Probably. This is only the beginning. She will whine about having to pay it back, too.

“The lamestream media is overflowing with these sob stories. They are setting the stage for a Democrat proposal to forgive student loans. I’d stake a month’s pay on it.”

Exactly! These loans will be bundled just like we saw previously with housing loans. This time however, I think there’ll prolly be some sort of strings attached for students who choose to enter into some sort of debt forgiveness program, most certainly an indoctrination program to complete their brainwashing into a ‘new’ socialist America.

If she’s reasonably good looking and personable she could make that much as a bartender in any decent size city in America.

First a college education is meaningless, based on my last year when I had to go back to finish up as the people today for the most part and the professors are useless, all about me, and self centered.

Secondly the country has been brainwashed into making most think in order to get a good job you have to do at least four years of school.

She should have gone to a cheaper school, instead she chose this expensive school. Tough I have no pity for her.

My first wife and I went through veterinary college and paid our way. I worked two extra jobs and served in the ANG and Army Reserve. During breaks I worked with the ANG or went TDY to Ft. Campbell. We graduated and didn’t owe a red cent. Now days I hear of veterinary students with >$300000 debt load. I have to shake my head. A job or profession shouldn’t be an avenue to slavery.

Join the Army. Then use the GI bill after discharge to finish college.

Mt tuition at AU was $2000 per year in the late ‘60s.

Any clue what is today? My tuition at Michigan State was $37 per credit hour in the early 1980s. It was $453 per credit hour in 2015.

She could auction off her virginity on Ebay as others have done, except that ship probably sailed when she was 16.
