Syrian refugees are being settled in South Carolina, despite a request from Gov. Nikki Haley that they not be placed in the state because of security concerns.

The Department of Social Services has been notified by Lutheran Services Carolinas that another family from Syria has been approved for resettlement in the State,†DSS spokeswoman Karen Wingo told The Greenville News. “However, the Department does not have any additional information at this time regarding their estimated date of arrival or planned location of placement.â€
The federal government did not communicate with Haley’s office that it was resettling the Syrians in South Carolina, according to the Governor’s Office. The governor learned of the resettlements through DSS and a resettlement agency.
Last month, Haley asked Secretary of State John Kerry not to place any of the Syrian refugees in South Carolina because of concerns of inadequate security checks and the possibility that some terrorists might infiltrate the thousands of refugees being processed for settlement into the United States.

what happened to vetting them for it takes over a year, and today two men were arrested in Austria who had fake passports and said they were refugees when they were not, but arrested in a probable connection to the attacks in Paris.

Ah Lutheran Services, the organization that brought Somalians to Minnesota (and some to Fargo too).
As an aside my parents and I knew Kurds who came to Fargo in the early 1990’s. Several of the young men became students at North Dakota State University. We rented the basement apartment in our home to them (two blocks from NDSU). The students and their parents had a party and invited my parents. We could not have asked for nicer young men to live in that apartment.

Guv Nikki started out promising but has let me down big time. I will give her a good grade during the flooding we had a few months ago.
I am a member of a Lutheran church but I still don’t get a lot of it.
