On Tuesday, the Superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District announced that all schools would be shut down today due to an unspecified terror threat. According to ABC News, that threat also carries “unknown credibility.†Bus drivers say they have been returned to their bus depots. LAUSD is the nation’s second-largest school district, with 640,000 students and 900 schools; children range from kindergarten to 12th grade.

Mayor:
Email received last night. Not the only city. Besides NYC, unsure if any other cities. Pointing at San Bernardino as a reason to close schools.
Police chief:
Threat was specific to all LAUSD schools, explosive devices and weapons were said to be in place. Email was routed to somewhere closer than Germany.

Have they started searching the 900 district and the 200 charter schools yet? I am estimating to to that effectively, they’ll need 2 weeks. lol...

I missed the first part of the presser because I had to go into my son’s school (different district). Figured I’d missed the whole thing. Nope. It’s still going on, and the only subject is, waaaah waaaaah our decision - safety of our employees, oh yeah, and the kids too - waaaah waaaah don’t second guess. The best was “I have never been more proud of my city than (sniff sniff) in the last few (sob) hours.

Did the police chief, too, say it was not his decision to close schools? I only heard Mayor Garcetti say that. Enter the politicians to backtrack on this.

Panic => We need a connection net between all school discricts, so NY and LA and Podunk can compare threats, etc. More Beauricacry is better (hey, I did go to spelling school, but not for booracrassy).
Well, LAUSD could have told the cops, who ARE supposed to have all these connected nets and links

Saddest thing about this whole fracas: all over the world, terrorists are wiping their eyes from all their laughing and seeing how stupid we are and how easy it is. And that they don’t have to plan as much as they thought for the next one.

So you are saying BOTH Garcetti and Chief Beck are hanging Cortines out to dry with decision denials. Interesting.
Before this is over they’ll either be beating on each other or giving each other awards for acting so decisive and being the most concerned.
